Although he's getting slaughtered by the far right ...
It's a funny old world it really is...
It highlights a fundamental problem, which is that the Republican Party is not one Party. And having a businessman as POTUS just exacerbates the problem.
Someone described it well on a podcast (can't remember which one) saying that as a businessman, Trump is trying to be a transactional leader. He is used to trying to do a deal and if it doesn't work out you move onto someone else to do a deal. The 'deals' in national and international politics are far more difficult and complex because there is only one Senate and only one House. And there is only one Russia, one China, one EU and so on.
Just as Brexit is based on the myth that we can somehow walk away from Europe if we can't agree a deal, Trump can't say 'take it or leave it' to the Freedom Caucus with the threat that he'll work with the democrats because it won't work. Or will only work once.
He's going to have to become a politician, an insider and do the politics if he wants to be a President. He has to find a way to please the nutters and the moderates in his party.
Or he can just carry on being an orange buffoon, draining the country's coffers into the bank accounts of his mates and his family. He's been in office for months and he hasn't really
done anything constructive. The only consequence of him being in power has been destructive and diminished the US in the eyes of the rest of the World.
