I disagree that he can do the unpleasant jobs equally well, that's probably the point here. I think we both agree that Momo is a squad player, and that Mascherano is the better player. I was delighted when we signed Masch and I still am.

However, in certain games Momo is still the more useful asset, IMO. Barcelona being a prime example.

Not much positive said about Gonzo today, but he put in some great crosses, one which Gallas almost put in his own net.

Much better effort from him, tracked back well also, although still needs to improve to be a regular.

excellent result, and fantastic performance from crouchie... thought overall our performance was a strange one...very threatening, and potent, but sloppy in possession...xabi, mascherano and gerrard in particular...all the team worked hard and we were excellent when not in possession....pennant was excellent and worked hard throughout, aurelio was very assured and showed some excellent touches in defence, possession and attack, gozales was poor first half but did show glimpses of what he can do given the ball in front of him, getting three really good dangerous crosses in...and kuyt looked like the automatic replacement for gerrard (showing influence and control), and did show that his first touch is as good as most (but not as good as crouchie's....crouch mom, followed by pennant and aurelio

excellent win, should provide plenty of positives going into the pvc game

Apart from Crouch, I think Mascherano's performance was superb. Made some important interceptions and showed what a class player he is.

A great morale booster ahead of PSV.

A great result and proves we have a strong squad and 'possibilities'.

We are not far off being challengers in my opinion.

A couple of world class editions and the new boys will be fully settled come next year.

I think you're all watching a different Pennat from me. I've been looking at one that hardly ever beats a man, never makes a tackle and has a bad first touch.

That first touch/anticipating the ball thing was really playing up today, balls bounce all over the place near him, he never takes it in his stride.

Aurelio was fantastic (and our jermaine could learn a lot about crossing from him) as was Crouch obviously.

I think we showed the passion for the revenge and got it.

Although Crouch had a hat-trick my MOTM goes to Mascherano : He reads the game well and have got a very good engine. Also his timing of tackles are excellent.

I think if we play this formation and 2 of the 3 of Masch / Alonso / Sissoko and give Gerrard the license to go forward like this game (and probably meaning playing Bellamy in the flanks (or a 4-3-3?) then we would beat a lot of smaller teams next season.

Of course if we can get a better goal-scorer and a RM (Daniel Alves) it would be even better...

Ignoring the overall game for a second and going a bit Kaizer-ish - he made one, played the superb flick for Arbeloa for our first and should also have had an assist from the corner for Carra who knocked a free header over the bar. All this against a team that at the start of the day where ahead of us in the league and have beaten us 3 times this season.

If it's not an excellent game from him it can hardly be described as a bad one either.

Our best performers today were the ones that weren't involved in mid week internationals - although that wouldn't be too difficult seeing as Rafa only started with two players that DID play midweek (Alonso doesnt count as he only played 12 minutes for Spain) He really is a canny soul, no?

I agree, if crouch hadnt got that 3rd goal id have had mascherano as man of the match, if he carries on like that i think we have a direct replacement for Hamman

People saying because we have Mascherano we can sack sissoko off have no idea, its a squad game, Momo is a very useful member of the squad

last season he played in the middle with Alonso and we were solid, after a couple of bad games and a new midfielder all of a sudden he isnt good enough!

A great team performance today though, it would be hard to pick out anyone who didnt play well

reason the 'unsexy' players did well, is cos from a ball playing (swear word over here, we all think England are technicaly good and are being held back by a poor manager................its blatantly over rated English players and anyone who disagress is a blinkered Englishman who has been brainwashed.......) point of view they have sexy touch in the first place, so Aurellio, Masherano, Pennant and Crouch, all with great technique, and they showed it today
