Didn't want to make a thread incase the mods came along but if he does retire....Fuck me that would be amazing after the initial cock gobbling press mess it all could end up with the winner knows as David Moyes at Man Utd.

He's set for surgery, isn't he? Could have something to do with that.

Please lord, make his replacement someone deserving of a spot at a top club. Someone like Sam Allardyce or David Moyes. Please lord. Please.

Doesn't he claim every other season he's thinking about retiring?

If he goes the its Jose isn't it?

The Guardian noted today that Real Madrid and Mourinho are likely playing an interesting game between each other. If Real Madrid sack him, they owe him Ä20m. If someone else wants him, they have to pay Ä20m. Unless Manchester United offer Madrid a player in return, I can't see them paying Ä20m for him. That said for all his Chelsea love bullshit, as one journalist mentioned earlier in the week (can't remember which one), if Mourinho was offered the United job five minutes before Chelsea, he'd probably go to Manchester instead.

Must be Moyes to replace him considering all the money that has been put on him this week. It's going to be fascinatiing to see how they cope if he does leave,I'm not sure they'll be as competitive as they have been under Ferguson but because of their financial resources I can't see them having such a decline as we suffered under Souness.

Mr. Fergusonís Manchester United future was shrouded in doubt on Tuesday night with the Scot understood to be giving serious consideration to ending his 26-year reign as manager.

As rumours of the 71-year-oldís imminent retirement swept Manchester, senior figures at the club failed to respond to repeated attempts to confirm or deny the story, which emerged following Unitedís player versus coaches golf day at Dunham Massey on Tuesday afternoon.
With United now forced to adhere to the strict rules and regulations of the New York Stock Exchange in terms of the release of significant information relating to the running of the club following last Augustís partial flotation, any change of management would fall within those requirements.

As of Tuesday night, no statement over Fergusonís future had been issued by United.

However, with sources close to the players confirming that the squadís golf day had been overshadowed by suggestions that the Scot would be making an announcement ahead of Sundayís clash with Swansea at Old Trafford, any ongoing uncertainty is unlikely to be allowed to continue to the point where it would affect the confidence of investors and, in turn, Unitedís New York share price.

When Unitedís owners, the Glazer family, issued its prospectus for the clubís £500m bond issue in January 2010, the prospect of Ferguson leaving the club and potentially jeopardising future success was raised by the Americans as one of the risk factors attached to investing in the club.

Not that anyone should spend a great deal of time worrying about this, but it would be great if he did pack it in. While he is there, they will continue to have tonnes of success. There is no way anyone will give them the level of success he has.

United haven't issued a statement.

Big wow.

They wouldn't issue a statement if he wasn't retiring, so what is the issue.

Just a rumour going around the united squad.

Big deal.

As strange as it sounds I do.  He is the reason for the success that the club has had, he is the reason for anti-Liverpool feeling in the press....I bet Luis would love to se the back of him considering what he and Evra manufactured a year or so ago.

Agreed, don't see him retiring. Why would he? He'll be wanting to win a European Cup or two before retiring.

Considering it has taken him 20+ years to get two European Cups, I highly doubt he's going to manage another two before retiring.

stuff going round about Moyes coming in as a number 2 for a year, then taking over.

makes sense to me, it was either this year or next Fergie was going to go, and the way the manager roundabout looks at the mo, Moyes is a fair shout.

Hes achieved everything possible but is desperate for that 3rd European cup. Maybe hes finally realised its impossible with the dominance of Spanish and German clubs with no signs of that diminishing for the forseeable future. Utd are nothing in comparison.

I think its worth taking into consideration the English game was playing catch up with the rest of Europe for about ten years and the cup is harder to win in the Champions League era.
