Thought he started really well, set the pace getting forward and getting stuck in with a few tackles, led to us getting the early breakthrough.
There was talk of him taking a knock, anyword on it?  Hope it's not serious with Tuesday night coming up.
I'm not having that. I'll take your point he wasnt involved as much as we would've wanted but to say he didnt looked arsed is stupid. He set the tone early on with a few really good challenges. Had brilliant movement along side crouch when he received the ball. He was also playing in a role hes only ever played a few times this season (if that).
Exactly.

First, obviously, some nice football there fucking well done.

Second, I hope all the donkeys who've been saying "Mascherano in means Alonso out in the summer" now start to understand why that's such an idiotic opinion.

Third, and to quote the great man " ... can you tell what it is yet?" --  a team grounded in what Rafa thinks is the best central defence and central midfield he can buy -- 451 with a striker who can score goals but whose day-by-day skill is disrupting the opponent defence -- Rafa puts his best player at the head of an attacking midfield --

Gerrard is no Riquelme, but then Riquelme is no Gerrard.  As long predicted, we're going to see a lot more Valencia-style 451 next season.  Rafa tried and failed (miserably) to bring that to Liverpool in his first season, but he's gradually getting a team in place that can play that way even in the English league -- not every game, of course, but he's not going to use it merely as a defensive formation away from home, as we saw today.  I think today's formation was only partly because of the pending PSV game.  (For what it's worth, PSV will pretty obviously be 442 with Bellamy up front and Gerrard on the wing.)

Fourth, and back to the most obvious, even though I'm sure Sami has at least another season at LFC in him, his last great gift to us should be to spend the summer defending on the training pitch against Peter trying to get some power and accuracy into his headers.  (Just like Momo should be spending the summer playing 1-touch five-a-side.)  If even Mickey couuld learn to score a few with his head, surely so can Peter.  Three goals against the Arse is awesome, but the most shocking goal out of the three was the header with power and accuracy, and there can be a lot more of those if he wants them.

RAFA PRAISES HAT-TRICK HERO CROUCH
Steve Hunter 31 March 2007
Rafael Benitez was full of praise for Peter Crouch after he scored his first hat-trick for Liverpool in the 4-1 win over Arsenal.
The Liverpool manager felt it was a thoroughly deserved victory by his team and was delighted with the overall display.

"It was a really good team performance and we wanted to give our supporters something special today," enthused Benitez.

"Crouch hadn't played for 20 days because of his nose operation and he was desperate to play and score goals. All of his goals were fantastic and I really liked the move between Pennant and Arbeloa for his first goal.

"To score four goals against a top side is really good and we are fighting hard for that third place. I still think we have played better games this season but I am really pleased with the team today.

"Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano controlled the midfield and it has set us up nicely for the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday."

The Liverpool manager revealed after the game that Steven Gerrard was substituted because he felt the captain was tired after the international break. Craig Bellamy and Steve Finnan were rested but will return to the squad along with Sami Hyypia for the trip to PSV.

I think you've described it well there.  It's great to have a centre back who contributes goals.

Speaking off centre backs who contribute goals, Vidic is being carried off with a possible dislocated shoulder, big loss.  Derbyshire 1-0 blackburn

Quote from the BBC live text thing:

1523: Wayne Rooney is having an absolute shocker. Ryan Giggs picks him out in the box with a chipped pass only for the striker to get the ball caught under his feet and eventually dig out a tame shot straight at Brad Friedel. Shortly after, Nemanja Vidic is strechered off with what looks like a dislocated shoulder.

Vidic out for a while..bodes well ;D
