You've got to remember it covers Sefton and that has Hightown, Formby, Ainsdale and Southport in it, so you're going to find a load of dyed in the woll Tories in there who will vote Tory no matter what.

That I really struggle to understand. Then again, my dickhead Dad is from Walton (lives in the Swan now) and votes Tory

Liverpool city region so it includes the fancy parts in west Wirral as well which will contain a load of historical tories

Extraordinary if Tory MPs look at these results and think "yeah, might as well roll the dice with Rishi in the GE". Surely no amount of No. 10 spinning can pull the wool over their eyes now.

If these figures posted by the DT are correct, there are more than 3000 votes in the West Midlands.

Lab: 26,442

Fuck me if they lose this im ordering a pizza and kicking the family out the house and watching the news channels all night.

It's quite ridiculous. I live in Birmingham and Parker has been almost invisible while you can't move for Street popping up.
Would be very, very funny

They have no choice, its utterly ridiculous even they accept to have another PM put in place.

Apologies to put a downer on this, but did anyone else realise that Andy Street's partner is... Michael Fabricant? I only just found this out and honestly I'm shook.

Those figures are for Wolverhampton only. The figures from 2021 were 27,784 first preference votes for Street while Labour’s candidate got 24,989, so a big swing to Labour.

Hopefully when Labour win the GE they revert back to the second preference vote as well as either end voter ID or significantly add to the list of acceptable IDs.

This seems to confirm that the Tories are on course for a battering at the next GE. A low turn out certainly won't save them. Changing leaders won't help either. Sunak is probably the least offensive Tory out there, at least in terms of presentation. Everyone else is either batshit, controversial, or both.

Even under the height of sleaze under John Major, not one MP was forced to stand down. This Parliament has seen an unprecedented number of recall petitions in recent history. Between that and Labour just needing to come across as coherent and competent, Sunak is being relentlessly squeezed.

But we will likely have another six to nine months carrying this lame duck government.

The results are in for Birmingham, one of the seven local authority areas in the West Midlands mayoral election.

Labour candidate Richard Parker got 80,251 votes, while Conservative Andy Street got 66,296 - both receiving a lower percentage of the vote share than they did in 2021.

The independent candidate, Akhmed Yakoob, came third with 42,953 (nearly 20% of the vote) - his campaign largely focused on Gaza and he was predicted to take a a number of votes from Labour over the issue.

To kind of repeat what Tepid and I posted about yesterday, places like Virgina Waters voting for a Labour councillor is pretty huge because it shows perfectly the bind the Tories are in, the more they go chasing after Reform voters the more wealthy, educated, socially liberal Tories they leave behind. They are utterly fucked and it’s wonderful.

Yes, sums it up perfectly I really don't think it matters what they do now.

I'd imagine Labour and Reform will character assassinate Sunak as well. He's a piss poor politician and under the gaze of a GE he could be really exposed.

If Gaza isn't a leading issue by the time it comes around it seems to me the polls are right and they are set to be decimated

Even Gaza I would take with a slight pinch of salt, turnout at these elections is never that high, the Pro-Palestine vote is motivated and then amplified. Come the GE turnout will be higher and that dilutes some of the die hard Pro-Palestinian voters impact.

If Gaza remains an issue then think there's a good chance the next GE sees a lot of independent candidates standing, along with Galloway's shills. There are probably a few dozen to perhaps fifty odd seats where results could go against the grain as a result - or at least become difficult to predict - but that won't help the Tories at all.
