Thought he'd been released?
Nope not sure where that came from. The official site just did a feature on him not long ago.

u18s also played a friendly against Burton Albion and won 4-0. 2 free kick goals from Jake Cain, and one each for Niall Brookwell and Oakley Cannonier (the ball boy who gave Trent the ball for THAT corner against Barca).

Cain's first free kick was a stunner.

16 year old first year scholar Layton Stewart played the number 9 role and was a standout for the u18s. He's recently been touted as the next 'one to watch' by academy staff and some journos.

The difference in heights of the U18s players in the 1.5 minute clip df  the goals is striking.  If the no 5 was Remi he seems to have filled out a bit and grown, and the newbies in that group look as though they have still to start their growth spurt.   :D

Putting van den Berg to one side, Glatzel is probably the youngster that excites me the most after Brewster and Hoever. I think he's one of those that will likely get promoted to play full time at Melwood while continuing to play for the U23.

He’s been getting in the Germany u21 team so he’s obviously well thought of over there as well. No doubt the Bundesliga teams will be sniffing round before long. If he can see a route into the LFC first team squad he’ll be more likely to ignore their approaches when they come.

Duncan and Glatzel for me.

Both going on the USA tour as well which will be great for them.

I try and watch as many of the matches as I can and I've really missed out on Glatzel. He's passed me by totally for some reason.

I'm still sad Tagseth didn't make it. I hope Brewster and Glatzel and Duncan kick arse in the US.

They’re not updating the younger age group yet for some reason but I’ve seen photos of Patrick Raitanen signing for another club (in Europe) yet he’s also still listed on lfc site.

Duncan will struggle at first team level.

Looks another Morgan. No outstanding atribute apart from finishing you need more that that.

The Germany U21 team. Really? The u21 euros were on during the summer and he wasn't with them. What makes you think he has been getting in the Germany U21 team? His last cap that I seen was for the Germany u18 team.

Have to say I agree with you here- which is why I think Glatzel is better positioned to make it. He just seems to have a more well rounded game than Duncan at this stage. Still young though and a lot can happen in the next two years.

That's pretty much my opinion too, although they're both young and there's still a lot to develop of course.

Hope Glatzels injury wasn't a bad one today...

Most impressed by Hoever. The lad was on another level. We need a proper thread for Hoever soon. He is something special.
I don't even know what his position will be, because his skills are so unique. He is more Beckenbauer than anyone I have seen.
Hats off to Bill on his throne,

So a forward that has the main attribute in his position which is scoring is going to struggle.

He already played for Man City youth team and is now at Liverpool, won the youth cup and is now involved in pre season and clubs in German are wanting him.

You do realise that other things can be worked on. He's young.

Yes, 18s rather than 21s. But the point remains the same - he will be on the radar of the German clubs’ radar to an even greater extent than their usual monitoring of youngsters at English clubs.

I mean not to compare them, but Robbie Fowler didn’t look to have any outstanding attribute ‘apart from finishing’ when he was young
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

I think Bobby did a pretty good job replacing Kuyt as our workhorse forward.

Same could be said of Neil Mellor. I think he's got more in common with Mellor than Fowler, but we'll see.

Has Hoever played much midfield? I feel like it's much more suited to his skillset, though he looks like he can play anywhere.

Physically Duncan looks like a young Rooney type, very strong and dynamic looking lad.

He scored his one chance which is always good for a striker,to have that finishing touch.

I really know next to nothing about him but looking forward to watching a few youth games this season to see how he and the other kids do.

And we shouldn't either. This team is now at such a high level that we cannot accommodate someone of Dirk's limited technical ability and limited speed. We are a team built on speed and skill.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

It's going to a busy season for the academy lads with the extra games in the EFL trophy, especially if we get some easier early round draws in the League Cup.

The u23s title.  The EFL Trophy.  UEFA Youth Cup.

It's great they'll be getting some open age competitive game time rather than just youth games.
