Seems our EFL Trophy game against Oldham this wednesday isn't on tv.  Shame really I was looking forward to seeing how we get on against senior pros.

It's not scheduled to be according to the official site though that doesn't mean anything.  Just seems weird its not on any channel as it's the only game being played in the competition that night.

I know mate but maybe its cos it's an away fixture that it's not on lfctv and it's not an academy game either.

I'd been looking forward to see how we get on in the competition too.

Which is why I was surprised it's not on tv mate.

It's the only fixture in the competition being played that night and the first time our academy lads have entered it, I'd have thought Sky would have jumped in there pronto.

Game is down to be on lfctv go now.

As for the team it'll depend on loans and if they're going to drop certain players down, but at a guess: atherton, Williams, Gallagher, johnston, larouci, bonner, lewis, christie-davies, millar, jones, duncan

Harry Wilson off to Bournemouth for a medical. This will be a good barometer of what level he is actually at.

No Wilson, Kent, Philips or Curtis Jones at Melwood for the photo shoot of the first team yesterday. Unlikely he is off on loan without signing a new contract.

What is going on with Jones?  I haven't really been following what's been happening with the youth players this summer.

Why all the talk of Jones not signing a new deal or sitting out?? What reason do we have to believe heís unhappy? Heís easily one of our top talents and still only 18.

His contract runs out in a year and he's not signed an extension yet. He's spent about 18 months training with the first team and has 45 minutes in a nothing fa cup game to show for it, Elliott has now come in and basically taken his space in the first team squad and there's not really a clear path to the first team in midfield at the moment. He might sign a new deal, get a loan and everything then is fine for now.  But this is basically his only chance for the next 3-5 years where he has a lot of leverage. His england team mates are making moves in search of first team football, he might want that as well.

I've not seen a great deal of Jones at youth level, but he impressed this summer so hopefully he'll sign a new deal and get some more senior minutes or a loan, which ever the club see is better for his development.

With the way transfer fees are going up, we could see a lot more players (young and old) running down contracts.
I am a man of few words.....any questions?

I think a loan for him would be the best course of action this season. I think heís ready to be tested against senior competition on a regular basis.
As a local lad and lifelong red, I just canít see him not resigning and trusting us to help facilitate that next step for him. Unless something has gone on behind the scene that we arenít aware of- some kind of disciplinary issue or bust up or what have you.
And to be fair, heís not exactly part of that same Brewster/Sancho/Hudson Odoi class of youngsters that has been able to really leverage clubs for opportunities. As talented as he is I donít think sitting out a season will put him in good stead for his next step.
Anyway I hope this is all moot. Agreeing a new deal and finding a league 1 loan would be great for him.

They were playing in a pan u19 tournament in Germany that finished on Sunday.  There is a short article on the This is Anfield site by Jack Lusby about it with a picture of the squad (not the one at the top of the article which is a last season shot but the one within the article).  I think Koumetio is at the back towering above Clayton, and also taller than Remi savage on his other side.

Surprising, but very good, move for #LFC U23s defender George Johnston. He's off to Feyenoord on a permanent deal after @Kuyt called the Reds for a recommendation. Was into the last year of his deal. LFC will receive a small fee.

Seems a bit odd getting him to sign a new contract rather than just selling, but I guess the cost of his contract is less than we would get from any potential fee next season.

2018 signed. 3 year deal is to 2021 not 2020.

He signed in January 2018, so his deal will run out in the summer of 2020 (2 and a half years). The alternative would be for his contract to run out in January 2021, which would never happen. He would not have been able to sign a contract lasting until summer 2021.

With Phillips, Johnston and Rhys Williams all loaned or sold, it will be interesting to see who will be our primary CBs at the youth levels. I would expect VanDenBerg to see lots of u23 action. Hoever will likely partner him a great deal (with neco Williams at RB). I actually fancy hoever more as a full back than cb but as needs must.
That leaves Tom Clayton, Billy Koumetio maybe Niall Brookwell as u18 cb options (surely Iíve forgotten someone).
