Wasn’t sharpest and it’s fair to say some way off from the pre-assault version.

However it’s the same for every sport, just look at Andy Murray and Roger Federer post surgery. Hope he will start to get up to speed with every game he plays.

That's a fair assessment, and it's also quite an expected one.  I expect him to start looking much sharper after Christmass.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but i'm still not sure the midfield balance is right and looks light against top teams like City and Chelsea. I'd prefer 2 holding cms against those sides. Maybe we would have seen that today had Thiago been fit?

If Virgil was really the weak link they'd be targeting him via the channel between him and Robbo.  Instead just as with Brentford they target the RB because there is no cover there for him regardless of who is playing there with the way the team is tactically setup and how our players are performing in those roles.

Could just say reasonably solid game, nothing spectacular, should have stopped trying the long balls earlier when it was clear it wasn't working today for him.

Anyway, can't really be 100% yet, still looks good and long season ahead to evolve into usual spectacular

There are only three top teams in the league. We are one, and did ok against the other two.  As long as we don't suffer any more major injuries we will be fine.

He's done well for the most part, but I think the other two will do better.  And when they get their chance it'll be hard for Matip to get back in, much like the league winning season.  Not a bad thing having a healthy competition for spaces.

This. When fit easily the second best centre back in the league. He's actually been better than Virgil this season to be honest.
