Not that he's a bonafide first teamer, but Rossiter is out for a while as well. Might have made bench with Lucas out and the back 3 in form (i.e., Can might not be an option in the middle).

Probably not long, tonight and perhaps the weekend would be my guess.

I would leave it the three, Have Moreno and Ibe/Markovic helping Gerrard and Henderson in front of the back three two of Cutinho/Sterling/Lallana off Sturridge up top and hope it works.

Coutinho's also picked up a knock in the derby, but will probably play tonight.

I'd say it was only tightness then. Saw him grab at it once or twice but wasn't limping and it didn't seem to be affecting his play.

Dare I say it?  :-\

I want as many experienced, classy bodies available as possible, but Gerrard shouldn't be part of that central midfield two. You need more than vision there, he still has much to provide this season, but having our hand forced to try a better fit may be beneficial.

He's still boss from the spot and when his passing's on song, and I don't think he was terrible tonight, but so much glides past him now. If the manager's temptation is to have him slot in there to 'replace' Lucas in games where we really need a good grip on the middle of the pitch, then maybe a short rest and recuperation period is timely. No disrespect intended, I love the man.

The wireless mentioned it, and BT spoke about it once he went off.

He didn't look too bad as he walked off, that'll bring us down to three players if he's hurt though.

It's poor management really. When Gerrard has played a number of games in a row this season he's picked up a little muscle strain. Same again last night when Rodgers knows his games need managing.

But we don't know if we would have won without him last night for sure. Is anybody as confident about other players taking pens, a point pertinent to last night for example.

So your saying Gerrad was picked solely in case we won a penalty   :o

No. I'm saying having him on the pitch when we got one was useful. I have far more confidence in him than the likes of Sturridge from the spot. See Everton last year.

Lucas is pretty good but he wasn't available either.

I don't want to think about Joe Allen taking a high pressure penalty ta.

The team that was on the pitch last night won, therefore it was the right choice. Yes it was very likely Stevie got injured due to fatigue, but it's worth it to win the game, especially when loads on here are dying to see what the team looks like without him - which is exactly what they'll get now.

I wasn't saying that at all. At the same time, it's useful to have a good free-kick/penalty taker, is it not?

Real shame Rossiter is injured right now. Would probably have featured in certain games. Now BR will have some real choices to make with regards to where Can will be playing.

Sterling back for the weekend?

Would be good to give Coutinho a break to avoid injury.

Agreed, we've got a couple of tricky games coming up and would be good to give the lad a rest.  Perhaps play Lallana in that position if Sterling is not back?

I think he will bring back Allen even if Gerrard is not injured. Gerrard is not able to play too many games in a row at the moment, and we need him for the PL.

And little Phil needs a rest, so Lallana can get some more game time.

We need to use Gerrard like we did Hyypia in his last year. From the bench. He can be involved in every game almost as long as he isn't starting

Liverpool could be without Steven Gerrard for up to three weeks due to a hamstring problem the captain suffered during the Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Gerrard was replaced in the 68th minute of Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over Mauricio Pochettino’s side after complaining of a tight hamstring. The 34-year-old will have a scan on the injury but expects to be sidelined for two to three weeks, forcing the midfielder to miss the FA Cup fifth-round tie at Crystal Palace, the Europa League first leg with Beşiktaş and the Premier League trip to Southampton on Sunday week.

A third week out would mean Gerrard also misses the second leg against Beşiktaş and a return to the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul where he lifted the Champions League trophy in 2005, plus Manchester City’s visit to Anfield on 1 March.

Gerrard’s absence would represent another setback in midfield for Brendan Rodgers, who on Saturday lost the influential Lucas Leiva for between four and six weeks with a thigh injury. The manager responded to the captain’s withdrawal against Spurs by introducing Dejan Lovren into Liverpool’s defence and pushing the commanding Emre Can into midfield. The Germany under-21 international could be set for an extended run in central midfield with Lovren and Glen Johnson vying for a return to the back three.

Fucking hell, we're breaking all the midfielders.

I know the boss said he doesn't want to move Can into midfield, but we might not have any other options, unless he wants to play Henderson and Allen in every match.

Or change the formation again to keep us guessing, the tactical bounder.

Red Cafu is almost back http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/jon-flanagan-injury-boost-liverpool-8637848

Jon Flanagan has provided a welcome injury boost to Liverpool after returning to full speed running at Melwood this week.

The popular young defender has missed the entire year due to a knee injury sustained in pre-season but on Monday reached a major milestone in his rehabilitation.

The 22-year-old has been building up strength in his knee by running in a harness, gradually increasing the weight he has been putting on the joint itself following surgery in September.

He is now running unsupported and will use the next couple of weeks to build up muscle strength before hopefully reappearing in some under-21 games.
