People also seem to forget Sturridge and Suarez don't take the penalties either. That's like an easy 10 goals to your tally.

Actually don't think he's played as well for us over his past 8 or 9 games (incl pre-season and England too). But, I think this goal could be just the tonic!

136.2 - Daniel Sturridge has a better Premier League mins-per-goal rate than Luis Suarez (138.8 ). Crucial.

First 20 minutes I thought he was on some sort of mission to skin every Southampton player on he pitch. Still got the quickest feet I've ever seen I think. Every step over, turn, flick, dragback. Blink and you miss them.

With Sturridge's strike rate from penalties, that's 0 to his tally ;D
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

Nice start as the new main man, as long as he doesn't miss too many games with injury he won't fail his part.

But it's just a purple patch don't you know? But he's just lucky don't you know? But his attitude stinks don't you know? But he's no Welbeck, never mind Rooney don't you know? But, but, but...
It's actually funny listening to Manchester mates scramble for excuses about why they won't rate him.

With all due respect to Daniel, you've seen very little football then.

As others have said, poor game but popped up where you need your goalscorer to pop up with a delicate little finish.

Great record for him - in defence of Owen and Fowler they made many appearances at a very young age so can't be judged with the others.

I don't think they need defending, those are great records!

Absolutely anonymous for large parts of the game, but still scores the winner.

Given Coutinho and Sturridge were not really firing and we still won, well happy days.

We're told without Suarez we'll struggle, then on this forum we're told without Sturridge and Coutinho on form we'll struggle, what next? If we had 4 players on the pitch we'd struggle. We'd probably still win given our attitude.
It looks to me as if we have signed another 'average' player. I'll hold back my complete opinion until I see the lad play

It's what brilliant strikers do. Even though he was barely in the game bar the first 20 mins he still manages to pop up to get the vital winner. Can't teach it.

He was anonymous because of the huge gap between the midfield/defence and our attack. And that was down to our formation. Had we played in the same style and formation as the majority of last season, he would have been more in the game.

Came at him that quick, just pure instinct. His positioning was also equally as impressive as the finish.

Yep, no getting away from the fact that Sturridge didnt have his best game but the fact is that with him being right at the top of the pitch he's very much dependent on the ball coming in to him if he's going to have much of an effect.

He had very little meaningful service yesterday.

Could easily get the golden boot this year if he stays fit. Think it's gonna be a case of who has least injuries out of him and Aguero. Costa has a chance as well i guess, but rarely do you see a striker win the golden boot on their first season in the PL.

His technique is sensational, and the way he was able to hold up the ball yesterday was excellent. I don't remember him being that technically skilled a year ago! 1v1 he's right up there with the best I'd say.

Definitely always had that super quick technique. Remember when he set up Enrique's goal in the Swansea 5-0. Incredible feet to keep it on the touchline. Then the two touches to play Jose in... my word... Also remember him in the game at Craven Cottage when he got his hat trick, just skinning people with technique and acceleration so easily. One of the most skilful players I've seen. Certainly for us.

His ability yo get goals seems entirely unconnected to his form too....he plays well and he scores, he plays poorly and he scores....he misses chances but generally he seems to always put one away regardless of how many he gets

Long may he continue.....if the likes of sterling, coutinho, henderson, lambert, lallana, markovic all chip in and we get similar set piece joy as last year, the pressure on his goals will be reasonable not too much and he could have a phenomenal season or three

He's going to be even better  once Lallana comes into the side along with Coutinho and Sterling behind him, all causing havoc playing killer balls.

Sturridge is going to score a shit load, 25 league goals at least.

More to do with being English and not from Liverpool IMO. People would be loving him if he was scouse, Spanish or German

I dont know about all of that I love Sturridge he should have a song he deserves it IMO. Something funny and light hearted like the Studge. Torres had a great song it became his anthem. Reckon that would be great for Danny. Liverpool and Sturridge was a match made in heaven, a ambitious, hungry, point to prove talent. Rodgers signed the best English striker better than the overrated Rooney two times over, and only a 25 goal season away from Van Persie who is a great player. All I know is this guy has made me a huge fan from the first moment and he is actually funny unlike boring Torres.

Brendan Rodgers deserves a 10 year contract for signing Sturridge alone ;D
