Mesmerising football from Sturridge, looks effortless for him.

And this

His hold up play has come on leaps and bounds since he joined. Makes you wonder why the fuck he got wasted at the World Cup being used as somebody to knock the ball in the net when he offers so much more.

Plays with such authority these days. Hardly seems to break sweat. He IS the man. That pass to Henderson for the first goal was beautiful.

He was very good today everywhere he was on the field. One minor criticism - he tried too hard a number times.

He had some wasteful shots, though. He's not world class yet, in my view. But yes, he holds up the ball in such a relaxed style, and he did it two or three times today, with good end product.

Balotelli should help him to keep the scoring rate up this season.

Still no song?

In Chicago I heard a bunch signing a Sturridge song to the tune of Timber by Pitbull. Must not of caught on.

Thought it was excellent today, his passing, link up play, holding the ball up and his runs while dribbling.  Made some intelligent runs too and was played in,  was just missing his goal.

Everything but the goal. He seems intent on replacing Suarez's creativity - his dribbling, passes and crosses have been absolutely superb. For my money, he's a complete striker, and world class.

Excellent all around performance. Passing, skills, touch, vision, all top notch.

I think it's fairly clear now that he's at his best when he can play next to another striker, rather than having to lead the line on his own.

He much prefers playing as a 2. Allows him to wander and show off his skill and playmaking ability, which is vastly under rated btw. Saw it against city when lambert came on and he set up a goal, and today with balotelli he was awesome.

Think a few times players could have been quicker to try and put him in; he was on the last shoulder with space constantly when we broke

i thought he was really good even after mario went off. i'd say as long as there's two players around him to drag runs then he's excellent, though he's not a typical CF to wait for crosses in the box to head in. 433 with the wingers playing narrower and capable of cutting in making diagonal runs across the box should be fine. i think the key for Daniel is having good movement around him.

Daniel Sturridge is fast becoming my favourite player. was unlucky on Sat not to score, felt he didnt get the pass from his team mates a couple of times when in a good position. Balotellis 50 yard effort springs to mind, simple pass to Studge for an easy goal.

He really is more than just a finisher.  He showed that last season, he's shown it so far this season.

He suits having another striker alongside him who he can create for and when he drifts wide we still have a threat in the box.

His footwork was great yesterday (and most games in fairness!). The chance he made for himself in the first half in the inside right channel where he let it through his legs was superb. Such good technique.

Thought he was excellent personally another day he would have scored from his two shots. He was drifting out wide and dragging their players all over the gaff. His pass down the corridor for Henderson to square for Raheems goal was a peach.

Thought he was everything good about us on Sunday. All that was missing from his performance was a goal. Much better than his City performance IMO.

The goals will come freely soon enough. As soon as Balotelli gets up to speed, think it will help Sturridge out a lot.

I know we all laughed and let it slide when Balotelli fluffed that shot considering it was his first game. Upon watching the replay again, he really should have passed to Sturridge who was in acres of space - you could see Studge just standing there in disbelief afterwards  ;D

That's why I say by his standards. Ordinarily I expect a goal a game from him at this point, because that's the kind of unerring finishing he's shown himself more than capable of. I thought his general play, shooting aside, was pretty interesting on Sunday. He's developed into such a robust forward, creative and skilful.

Thought he took the Suarez role as the complete striker while Balo was 'Poaching'. I understand what you mean though he has been a a goal a game striker for us almost so the expectations are huge but I quite like how he played on Sunday. He still had a huge effect on the game. Unlike the City game where he was quite as hell.
