Can anybody advise either technically or on how to deal with Dell here?
I bought that laptop on 7th September, it arrived 23rd September, from day 2 (24th) it randomly freezes. Just stops - nothing responding and if sound is playing it just buzzes. All I can do is longpress the power button to force shutdown.
There's nothing in event viewer, nothing in logs, nothing in pre-boot diagnostics, nothing in memory testing and it happens on battery and plug.. I've run it in safe mode, tried uninstalling different programmes, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, run without the Intel graphics driver on the basic one, changed laptop sleep/screen-off settings to 'never' and reseated the RAM chip, but nothing.
Spent 2 hours today on the phone with a Dell tech support who ran the same hardware tests and came back with nothing, so did a factory reset, after which it froze again without me having done anything more than log into Windows and do a driver and Windows update, as I was instructed to by the tech support op.
He told me that because the hardware tests passed, it isn't covered under warranty. I suggested I'd ask for a refund and he tells me that because it's over 30 days since order, I won't get one, which I believed was against legislation which was 30 days from delivery.
This problem started the second day I used the laptop, after about 6 hours' use in total, and again on factory settings, so it's clearly a problem at their end.
He's calling back tomorrow to check on the ticket, so I'm planning on asking for a replacement or, failing that, a refund. I'm paying through Paypal Credit so I believe I'm covered the same as I would be on a credit card under Section 75.
Any thoughts on tech things to try or ways to ensure I haven't spunked £500 on a brick? Alternatively, anybody have the number for UK-based Dell customer support so I don't have to listen to a script being read?
Cheers
