ha, wish I was that age.  When I first started drinking, I tried a sour or two and really didn't like it.  Of course my tasebuds continued to develop and I gave them another chance recently.  Really liked it.  Doesn't hurt that there are a lot more breweries over here (east coast of US) that brew some really good sours.

What are everyone's favorites?  I don't know much of the Belgian stuff so would love some recommendations.

I assume you're not talking about this stuff?

My in-laws bought me a selection of Brooklyn brewery beers for Christmas. I decided to start with the black chocolate stout on Christmas day. Got half way down the first one and thought there was a bit of a kick to it. Couldn't believe it when I looked at the bottle to see it was 10%.

Nice beer though and even better that I've found out my local off licence stocks it.

Defo one my favourite beers. A real treat of a drink.

Tried Hobgoblin Gold this weekend. Wychwoods newest beer. Ridiculously cheap at £1.24 a bottle in Tesco. Nice citrussy and hoppy ale like a good IPA. Going to stock up given the bargain price. Recommended!

Red Willow fuckin rule.
If you like that try their Fathomless. Oyster stout with actual oysters in it. It's brilliant.

Anyway tonight's tipple is LOB Russian Imperial Stout. Future posts may be impaired/improved as a result.
Red Willow is my hands down favourite brewer. Their -less range is peerless.
I'm in Liverpool this evening so where can I find some, please? Ta.

One of my good mates leaves today to go to Texas and work in a Brewery and as a head Bartender for a Dallas Brew pub.

Sunday night was his last shift tending bar at Global Brew Tap House (Similar to The Flying Saucer), so we had a proper sending off.

My ales consumed, listed below.

2x Dark Horse Tres Blueberry Stout - just a hint of blueberry on the nose, but a full malty mouth feel with plenty of coffee, vanilla, and chocolate. Lovely stuff. 7.0% abv.

1x Founders Backwoods Bastard

1x Mikkeller Til Fra Via

2x Oskar Blues Pinner

1x Oskar Blues Ten Fidy

2x Urban Chestnut Milk Stout

I watched a YouTube video and decided that Paul Konchesky looked like a player.

My standard go-to is #11, Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald.  Not sure how many of these are available in the UK...

You can probably get most of them here, so long as you're willing to pay silly money to shysters who're happy to take advantage of the popularity of craft ales.

No sore head, but I was a little thirsty, was set right by some water and a few cups of coffee.

I did not know that there was a Saucer in Speke. Glad to hear of it!

Apologies if this has been mentioned, I tried a rawk search with no results. I am drinking a witt bier/bierre blanche called La Goudale, from Gayant in France, bought in Aldi for £1.99, looks like a 75cl bottle. Better than any other commercial white beer I have had previously, and I am no stranger to Belgium and its offerings. It could be the absence of coriander I am enjoying as I hate coriander leaves in food.

I guess this is the best thread for any of you who have ever frequented the White Star in Button Street. Alfie, the manager who was there for over 20 years and introduced real ale to a whole load of Scousers, died a couple of weeks back. He was awarded a number of prizes for his dedication to real ale, and was an organiser of a lot of the real ale festivals in Liverpool. He was a blue, but one of the real good ones who arranged all sorts of trips for both reds and blues. I worked for him when I'd finished Uni, and my day job in the early 90's, when jobs were like rocking horse shit, wasn't enough for a young pup like me to save for my first home. H was a great fella, generous to a fault, knew his ale better than anybody you're likely to meet and he'll be missed by many, but most of all his wife, Jackie.

RIP Alfie, YNWA.

I do not know if you get any of the beers I get here in India. Kingfisher is the highest selling beer in India. It is available in two flavors, Strong and premium (Mild). They have now come up with such flavors as KF Ultra and KF Blue. They are piss though. Strong and mild are pretty good. Strong goes particularly well with spicy Indian food, while mild goes brilliantly with other food. I started drinking a beer called Miller these days. I suspect it is either a British or American beer. It is pretty damn smooth too. Can finish two bottles in no time. Fosters and Budweiser were my choices in my early 20s. In my first company where I worked as a software engineer, I and my colleagues had chicken and rice with King fisher strong or Fish and rice with Fosters every single day. We used to go back to office and just kept staring at the monitors like nothing happened. Golden days.

Nothing worse, than some fucker drinking Miller in your house stinking up the joint with its syrupy smell. Serious ground rule, if you're going to drink shite, dispose of the bottle as soon as it has left your lips I don't want it lingering around the place the next day, rank.

Took me back to a trip round India in the 90s with my girlfriend (now wife). I've still got the bottle caps of the beers we drank. Such unfamiliar but great names like Royal Challenge, Bullet and my favourite (in name, not taste) Haywood's 5000. They all tasted a bit ropey to, and i hope this doesn't sound condescending, our taste buds used to English ales, but an ice cold Bullet still went down a treat after a dusty day taking in the sights and madness of Gwalior, Bhopal or Aurangabad (we went a bit 'off-piste' like).

Still remember the look on the locals' faces when we walked into a permit room (do they still have those?), ordered a couple of Haywood's 5000s and sparked up a ciggie. It wasn't me they were looking at, it was the missus. One fella explained, they just never saw a female do that, drinking and smoking in public. Made you realise you were a long way from home :)

I remember the dark days my friend. 'Beer' in India is just piss and phenol.

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Bit of a fashionista hipster beer that blokes drink for the image rather than the taste much the same as many other bottled lagers. There's an extensive list of beer in this thread if you're looking for inspiration. From real ales to craft ales to quality european beers.

I personally like paler ales with nice aromatic hoppiness. Just pleased that the craft movement is swaying the popular conception of real ale drinkers being beardy sandal wearing oafs.

Its all about the taste.

Had a few Boltmakers recently Yorky, agree with you thought it was a really nice pint. Not sure if it was champion of the year material, but it's a blind tasting isn't it? So can't really argue with the winning choice on the day. Certainly v.drinkable.

Not that easy to find though, especially on this side of the Pennines. Only ever had it on a trip over to Yorkshire to see a gig at the Holmfirth Picturedrome. Crackin little venue, and several pumps of Boltmaker taking a hammering... a winning combo :)

I was born near Holmfirth. In fact the Nook - a legendary pub, difficult to find unless you know where to look - was the first time I ever tasted TTs.

What I like about Boltmaker winning was that Camera awarded a classic bitter rather than the Deuchar-inflected toasty beers that have been coming through in recent years.

Good point, forgot that beards were a hipster thing too.

I'm a huge fan of St Austell's Proper Job, mighty fine pale ale, bitter, zesty and citrussy with loads of hoppiness.

Just cracked open a bottle of this:

Lovely ale very similar in style to Proper Job, I'll certainly be buying more of it.
