Ridiculous overraction by the authorities towards smoke bombs. People given banning orders, some thrown in prison etc etc. Seeing family in London at the moment and I was at THAT MATCH between Brentford and Doncaster. The atmosphere was a real throwback to football 30 years ago. Terrace behind both goals, cracking atmosphere and the end was just mad, the penalty miss, the doncaster goal and the flares and smoke bombs being let off in the Doncaster end. Brentford fans then responded by launching their own mini pitch invasion and letting off their own smoke bombs which resulted in about 6 police horses running on.
The point i'm trying to make is that premier league football has lost something. We may never get terraces back at the top level but smoke bombs etc never hurt anyone, their just helping to improve the atmosphere which has unfortunately been lost due to the greed of owners.

Rumour going round our coach that a train from Lime St has been stopped at Edge Hill after a smoke bomb was let off onboard!? No idea if this is true - can anyone confirm? Must have only been in the first tunnel if they pulled it in there. Might be a few empty seats later if so, as well as some angry passengers!

Edge Hill is the first stop after Lime Street, takes about 3 minutes. If true they must of let it off as soon as the train started.

Love the flag of the kopite with a smoke bomb...(middle photo above).

The bombs are so 'dangerous' that the fire guy is just casually walking with it in his hand, the way the commentators go on about them he should have a radiation suit on to even go within 50 yards of it....

Brilliant. So long as they don't cross the line with racial/homophobic slurs, so long as they're responsible with the flares and the smoke bombs, so long as there's no violence or stupidity of any other kind that crosses the line, given the exorbitant amount of money these clubs charge the lifeblood of this very game? Can do whatever the fuck they like.

Football's the working class' game, once a week the lads are supposed to go down and watch their local club with their mates and have fun. It's not a fucking backdrop for a corporate meeting where men in suits who know nothing about what's going on on the pitch sit in the stands and hash out deals, it's not a fucking cinema, where you sit there and shut the fuck up for 90 minutes, then get up and go home. It's a fucking football game, and the crowd plays a vital role in the atmosphere, and the atmosphere at all of our away games has been superb.

 Keep it up lads.

People crying on Twitter. Honestly, just fuck off.

Pay your money, sit down say nothing all game then go home. That's all these people want. Sick of it.

People just seem desperate to be outraged these days, the reaction to the Suarez bite is evidence of that. Ivanovic gets a little nibble on his arm and the whole world is united in disgust at his abhorent behaviour. Rather than just writing it off as a little bit barmy but ultimately harmless.

Likewise, smoke bombs are harmless. It doesn't matter if there's children in the stands, it's not going to kill them. It's a bit of fun in an otherwise sterile, Premier League, environment where most fans just sit in silence. I hate that condescending attitude toward children as well, like they're going to be traumatised by anything and everything. I'd have loved smoke bombs going off at the match when I was a kid, they're colourful, noisy and a good laugh.

People want to take all of the fun out of football, when the atmosphere the fans create off the pitch is as attractive as the skill the players produce on it.
"If ever a club reflected what made football the biggest sport in the country, it was Liverpool with its ground set in the bosom of the labouring working class being led by a man-of-the-people idealist in Bill Shankly."

True, my lad is 7 and been to 3 aways with me this season....he loves the party atmosphere and the smoke bombs...it makes it enjoyable, even though he goes to Anfield with me he prefers the aways to sitting surrounded in silence for most of the game.

Honest question - Are the flares any danger to the surrounding people?

If no, then I really don't understand what the problem is. It's just awesome. Plus, the rest of Europe have them all the time.
