They been lamenting the sale of Fred these last few days. Do you guys agree?
To me it seems it's a deadly combo between the sale of Fred and the spectacular decision to buy Onana. Playing the likes of Johnny Evans in defense isn't helping their cause at all.
They can score goals but everytime someone is deadset on scoring, they just run through their middle and score a goal. Midfield is non-existent, defense is all over the place, and there's basically no one in goal.
Fred wasn't the best, but he was well-schooled within that United team. He was a water-carrier who could do a bit of a job- similar to Wan-Bisaka. I would've thought Wan-Bisaka would go instead of Fred.
Their ills this season are a concoction of many things: poor recruitment in the summer; plenty of big players declining rapidly (Casemiro, Varane, Rashford); injuries, particularly at the back, meaning they’ve not been able to form strong partnerships and consistency; playing too many young players at once, despite them all probably exceeding expectations, if you’re depending on three teenagers to carry the side you’re never going to get consistency of performance levels or results; and lastly the manager, whose tactics are complete shite and reek of a side being woefully coached.
The year we lost VVD/Gomez/Matip we had some really poor results but our performance levels didn’t drop off massively, our forwards could have won a lot of games and our midfield still controlled games for large parts, United have been a bit more like us last season before we inverted Trent. Looked leggy, past it, awfully coached and confidence was sapped. The difference is that side was coming to the end of an era and went a year too long, United should have been looking at solidifying their top 4 status as a minimum this season with a title challenge not out of the question. That they’ve ended up in mid table and came bottom of their piss easy CL group is simply shocking from Ten Hag.
