Modern day workers don’t want to be told to be in an office five days a week anymore. Maybe that’s how things were in the old days but times change. If you try and enforce it for everyone you just lose a lot of goodwill, and probably a lot of the workforce.

I was a bit concerned that they might have someone competent running the shop following his arrival but this news has put be right at ease. Yesterday's CEO for yesterday's club.

Ha ha, I love hearing about this guy. On a power trip, it's his way or the highway. Apparently greater unity of purpose can be achieved by coercion. Watch for two things 1] standards not to be applied equally 2] flight of highest skilled, most mobile staff.

It's always the same with these types, they don't have any genuine plans for improvement, instead its all about visible actions to set examples, the equivalent of Ten Hag sending his players on long runs after 'under performing'. 2 years later his players hate him and he is out the door. Ratcliffe is following the same pathway, lot's of 'are you watching' grand gestures, sensible staff quietly quitting and slipping away.

The guy has been on a non-stop self promotion tour for the last couple of years. He's had the taste of 'celebrity' so can't keep his mouth shut. He thought saying that he's putting the whole squad up for sale would inspire the players to prove him wrong, instead theyre downing tools which will drive their fee down even more.

Now he's doing his best to piss off the plebs who do his everyday donkey work. It only works for those scared to lose their jobs, the rest fuck off and take their Knowledge and skills elsewhere. Be funny if he loses people from the commercial dept, the only performing unit at the club.

Email traffic is a red herring. It’s been falling for years as people have different methods on collaborating such as slack.

A modern office will have a hybrid approach to work with mobility being a key part of how people work today and expect to be able to work.

His email about an untidy It dept. Is a bit old skool. Most IT depts are untidy.

If he really wants to increase moral and productivity - get the team to perform on the pitch and act in a professional manner. Will do wonders for the back office team

Also, aside from the fact that none of his other companies are similar and so a direct comparison may not be valid anyway, a decline in email traffic is a terrible measure of productivity and is indicative of approximately fuck all. Most of those extra emails in the office are probably just everyone getting their order in for the intern's lunch run and discussions about what happened to Erik's leaving card.

I live in London where public transport is apparently better than it is in many other cities in the UK. Despite this, on any given day up to 1/3 of the office will have issues getting to work due to issues with a train or Tube. If they are parents who do the school run before work, they will be even more stressed about getting to the office. Flexible working allows many people the ability to juggle family and work life effectively.

I the residents of Monaco have easier commutes.

It could go either way. At my place we definitely lost productivity during Covid when people were working from home. Instead of doing their work, which can perfectly well be done remotely on a computer, you hear all kind of lies given up by the noises around... What I was hoping for is a new way to measure individual contribution - by work done as opposed to time on the job. I think that would increase productivity. And if people can do their job in half the time while keeping the flow going for the entire team, then enjoy the other half, it's a well earned me-time. It's all about the nature of the job and how it intertwines with those of others.
