watched a video of true geordie the racist and apparently the hate from their fanbase springs from the first loss last season where after they wasted time for 90 minutes klopp said "football won today" in his post match interview.

Although I agree that it seems like more of an artificial rivalry they are trying to create because they desperately want to play with the big boys. They thought they will make a mark by punching the biggest guy in the room in the face and it backfired miserable for them when they lost twice against us last season and we battered them at their place.

These will be far worse than City as a fanbase. They haven't even won anything yet and they've already started. Really hope we can win on Sunday. But it will be tough.

You think. Maybe Im too confident but I think were the much better team than them. Pretty certain we will win.

The Geordies used to be sound(in the main), but they're turning already and they haven't even won anything yet.

What I'd give for a similar scoreline on Sunday.
Henderson gave Agger a hug with big smile after the first goal, a header.

Damn I miss Agger, mate!! Hahahah!!!  :D  :D

And Coutinho was a force of nature too when he's on the peak of his game.

Without Konate, I think a draw would be a decent result. The injuries begin, it is not a surprise. We let points be dropped instead of buying quality backups.

I would be fearful this could be a Napoli away type performance. We need Matip to step up

I think we need to stick to a rigid 4-3-3 if Konate is out. Wouldn't like to see Matip getting ragged all over the shop as Trent pushes into midfield. Isak would have a field day.

Before everyone starts losing their heads, it's still Eddie Howe.

Let's go there and work them over. They're not exactly bulletproof in the back either.

Fundamentally, it is still all about who scores the most goals wins. You know we'll probably concede away to Newcastle, but they should be wary of us too.

We've never played with a rigid 4-3-3 though, in the previous system Trent would spend a majority of the game playing as a right winger.

Have you seen how hard they work as a unit. They must be one of the hardest working teams. We will need to be on our game to be at it. And, now they have quality in their team and can punish our mistakes.
Matip of couple of years ago was fine, but now he is not at the required level.

I don't disagree that Matip is not the most comforting of choices at the moment. But what can be done about that now?

If we can't prevent them from scoring, then we out score them. It is that simple.

This is a big game.

Konate being out would be a huge blow but we knew that the CBs wouldn’t last.

I hope he plays Gomez instead of Matip for his pace. Isak will be targeting the space down our right and he’ll murder Matip.

Our win at St James’ Park last season seems to have been put down to them being down to 10 men by the wider football world and pundits.  Even one of their fans on that forum say we only scored because there were gaps left due to the red card.  We were 2-0 up before Pope got sent off and controlled the game quite well after that.

Hoping for another controlled win this weekend to bring them down a peg or two.

Gomez hasnt been tried there and there must be a reason for that. Matip actually played well there vs West Ham.

Drop the system that’s got us 8 wins and 4 draws from the 12 games we’ve used it.

What exactly does stick to 4-3-3 even mean?

I love how all these teams try to generate a rivalry with us. Eddie Howe talking about how Newcastle v Liverpool is an iconic battle in the Premier League. No it's not you bellend. 1 game was years ago and last years was us deservedly winning because your players rolled about the ground for 90 mins. Even when he was with Bournemouth I could never take to Howe, always came across very smug

Good we didn't buy a CB in the transfer window. Who needs them.

Back to Matip then, and when he is a doubt it's over to Gomez.

Great.

I'd play Gomez to be honest.  He's better at defending in those wide areas than Matip is.

Maybe physically. But Gomez struggles with awareness when covering one space, covering additional space for this new system (and the unfamiliarity/new triggers in that) would test his ability to stay concentrated for a full game (which has always been a challenge, even when fit and fluent and playing a traditional cb role).

Matip was man of te match last time he was asked to defend those wide areas
