This feels like a big match already.

Winning this would give us massive momentum - 7 out of 9 having played both Saudi teams away would be an excellent start

Had a look at a Newcastle forum post the successful red card appeal and fuck me do they hate Klopp. So weird. You would think we beat them in multiple cup finals in the last few seasons.

They also seem to be under the impression our midfield is just as poor as last season. Please let big Dom open his account with a mazzy run and finish or a thunder strike vs these.  :lickin

At this point I'd take it being a draw or going either way.

I'd be happy with a loss at this stage of the season

Considering how we dismantled them in this fixture last season, I'd be happy with more of the same, content with just a regular win.

Be interesting to see a midfield 3 of endo-mac allister-szobszlai in this game.

That would leave a big call for the front 3, do you put Gapko back up top, if so do you move jota to the left over diaz, some big calls to make.  Whatever happens we should have 3 very good game changing forwards coming from the bench if you include Doak as well.

Away to Newcastle is now probably our 3rd hardest game of the season. Do we chuck in Endo or do we wait until Villa at Anfield a week later and stick with Mac as the 6?

Am I overconfident because I feel like we will win this with ease. Weve got their number.

       Diaz - Gakpo - Salah
       Maca - Endo - Szobo
Robbo - VVD - Konate - TAA

Think Trent wont invert as much this time around and well see him more advanced like he used to play. Maca dropping to help out endo in build up and Endo dropping in between the CBs when we move higher up the pitch. Anyway Im just so curious to see how this new liverpool midfield will play.

I'd say that decision will 100% be dependent on what Klopp and the coaches see in training this week.  if Endo fits in like a glove, he'll start.  if he's not on the right wavelength yet with his mates, he won't.

You also can’t drop Diaz, I’d think. So unchanged front three, unless rotation is already a factor.

I saw an ad for game saying it was us against a resurgent Newcastle. Don’t you need a surge before a resurge?

Nice one Stockdam.
Yes good analysis, I think they are a well coached and balanced mix of flair, energy, pace and nous. And now with a decent bench. Obviously once the champions league starts the squad and Howe will come under more scrutiny but I think they will get top 4 again and progress in Europe (if they get a bit of luck in the draw).
A draw would be ok, I think they'd take it as well.

Perhaps it would make more sense if you stopped seeing it as leapfrogging, and hierarchies, and instead see it as different players chosen to start depending on the needs of the specific game.

Having said that, I can easily see us unchanged for this.

think if we start off like we did vs bournemouth its going to be a long game.

we need to keep it tidy and tight for the first 15-20 mins. easier said than done unfortunately as the demons of giving away early cheap goals is still in the squad.

would definitely start endo, mac, szobo. probably replace endo with baj or curtis(if fit) by 60 no matter the scoreline.

up front is a bit more competitive. who to drop. and which formation to go for. jota and diaz both in good enough scoring form. gakpo is our glue and link as false 9 up front. salah wont be on the bench obviously.

newcastle are no match for us if we are at our fucking ruthless best but then the performance have been few and far between and getting rarer.

another fear is the the ref fucking us up again as they likely would just because they can.

I can see why there is some trepidation around this game but we still have arguably the strongest attack in the league, the best GK and an invigorated midfield with Mac and Dom.

I'm unsure at what point to start Nunez. Do you start him to wear their defence out and replace him on 55-60 minutes or bring him on then and then wear them out? There are goals in this team and I cant see us not getting a few. Mac will be on it after having his ban overturned and the league doesn't yet know how to deal with Dom or Endo.

If Thiago is fit, I'd expect him to play a part.

After watching them last weekend, I wouldn't put it past Gordon to throw in some nasty tackles either being the bitter twat he is. If anyone gets a red in this game it'll be him.

Last years results as a whole appear to show Newcastle as rapidly becoming a force and I don't deny they have some good players but the league as a whole last year saw a lot of teams underperforming, us included. We were also without Jota and Diaz for extended periods and also depleted in terms of energy because the older players we have now replaced simply didn't have the energy to recover. We still beat these home and away though.

I don't see a loss and I don't understand why so many are writing us off.

3-1. Diaz, Darwin and Dom.

If you don't give them time on the ball they don't have the quality yet to hurt you IMO - City didn't give them a sniff and Isak looked pretty average. Trent will have to do a similar job to Walker.

I'd expect the only decisions to make are Endo/Curtis/Gakpo, which one starts alongside Mac and Szos. I'd be amazed if Thiago or Bajetic start this one after coming back from injuries.

I think Jota definitely keeps his place.

There is no way we are going away to Newcastle and dropping both Jota and Gakpo for Nunez and Endo. Gakpo and Jota are two of our best pressers and I find it odd how people advocate for others ahead of them.

There is an argument against Gakpo because of getting another midfielder in there. But at least one of Jota or Gakpo have to start.

I think we'll take them here. They're not as good as people make out . I seen them at Anfield last season and I have never ever seen a team time waste and cheat so much as they did that night. We have a better team and we certainly have a better manager.
1-0 to the reds. Nunez
