It's going to be an uphill battle to get some minutes for any RB at the club. As much as some people want to see Trent in midfield, that's obviously not happening and you'd have to be a really good PL level player to even compete with him for minutes. Getting likely over 10mil for a player so down the pecking order is excellent business.

Disappointed as he looked to be a real prospect, but let's be honest, he's (at best) 3rd choice RB, and about 7th choice for CB, so his route to the first XI is well and truly blocked, best of luck to him if he does move.

The Thiago thing changes how we should be filtering the people talking about transfers...

The local press directly denied we were interested (I think the Echo went with 'fantasy' at one point) .... the 'in the loop' main stream press said he wasn't an active target.... all the British press said that we had to sell a first choice midfielder before we could approach him....
By contrast several ITKs and most credible journalists in Germany were adamant it was happening

Massively increases the transfer fun potential in the future :)

To be fair both Local and German/foreign press were driving different agenda's, the end result matched neither. Foreign press made it seem like we were going to get a deal done ASAP near Bayerns asking price and other parties were interested. Meanwhile as you say our press were saying no interest and sell to buy.

In the end we did buy, waiting until Bayern came down to our level rather than biting Bayerns hands off for 30 million.

I remember posting way back before the CL final a journalist from the Mirror (but not Maddock) saying we wanted to get him for 18 million and not Bayerns 30 million. I paid it no mind but evidently he was right, so it sounds like it was something quite well known but everyone involved but a few was giving the Bayern or Liverpool line

don’t think it’s a lack of trust so much, people just want everything - the best first team, and a whole succession line of promising youngsters to drool over and put in projected future line-ups!

Yup.
If Klopp rates a young player he plays them or promotes them in the hierarchy. Just watch his actions not what comes out of his mouth to the media.
If you want to know how he feels about a player it's that simple to me
If we're selling him he doesn't rate him sufficiently

Or Klopp cares about his players and allows them to leave when they will get first team opportunities than being 3rd choice here in the now.

James Pearce says its over 10 million.
So people are saying they'd actually turn down say 12 million for a lad who the manager doesn't really rate, whose barely played for us and never in a significant game, who has literally 5+ players in front of him in the positions he can play who cost us about 100k a couple of years ago??

We all want to strengthen the team and win more shit ... this is exactly the kind of business that helps us to do that. It's a positive not a negative.

Fantastic bit of business in the end. This is what our academy should be about. Every now and then we get a player or two good enough to make a real, legitimate impact for the first XI or squad. The rest generally aren't good enough, but through loans and getting to train with the first team and our fantastic coaching staff, eventually move them on to create a nice bit of profit for the club to re-invest in players who will actually make an impact to our matchday squad.

It took less than 24 hours for people to whinge.

Hoever sees himself as a RB, and he's currently behind Trent and Neco Williams. Even at CB, he's at best our 5th choice, as I don't see him filling in ahead of Fabinho for instance if the other 3 aren't available.

10 million plus add ons for a player with 4 appearances is great business.

Pity about Hoever but the lad deserves to play first team football. We can’t keep on adding to a squad and at some stage we need to sell. He looks a good player and I hope he enjoys himself at Wolves.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts.

He’s what, third in the pecking order for right back and fifth at best for centre back. Clearly very talented and being stuck in a logjam at his two preferred two positions doesn’t do the player or club good. In an ideal world we’d loan him out but Wolves have made a serious offer and we’ve allowed him to take it up. £10m could end up being a bargain for him but it goes to show how strong a position we’re in when we can afford to let a talent like this go because we’ve got better players than him in his positions. Hope he goes well and plays 36 good games in the league every season he’s at Wolves.

Problem is, we're not really going to know if it's good business for about 4 or 5 years, at which point Hoever could be playing for Macclesfield, be worth £100 million plus, or be anything in between. All we can do in the meantime is trust those making the decision because they've definitely deserved it.
And if the rain stops, and everything's dry.. she would cry, just so I could drink tears from her eyes.
