Oh yeah good point, you'll fill the internal storage in no time so add an NVMe drive. I've put an additional 1TB in mine but depending on the amount of games you want to have you might want to consider 2TB.

external drive is also fine - but yeah having another TB to call upon is pretty vital if you want to be able to be quite dynamic between opting to play lots of different games

i assume you've got it new, so have it covered, but dualsense controller i'd consider essential

First things first, make sure you don’t skip Astro’s Playroom. Absolutely glorious introduction to the console.

Sort out your Playstation+ account. The top tier is well worth signing up for.

CD Keys vouchers can save you some cash. It may be worth holding on for black friday deals where the membership can be 25% off

Good shout - I'd say with Extra you're covered for nearly everything - you could even got several months playing good games without having to purchase any individual games

Also - shopto tend to seel PSN network cards for a little less than face value (for instance £77.85 for a £90 card at the moment) - which if you do couple it with the sale on the PSN Premium/Extra sales (or just in general the monthly sales on the store) can net a pretty decent discount - if they do a similar discount to the one in June for Black Friday (where the Premium was reduced from 99.99 to 74.99) and you use wallet credit from the 980 quid card then you are effectively spending £60.70 on the £100 membership (same maths gives 50.99 for the 83.99 normal cost for Extra)

Just got the Platinum with FF XVI - outstanding game, I know it is not to everyone's tastes but I loved it, phenomenal voice acting and story telling, huge fan, once I got a hang of the combat it flowed really nicely as well!

On the PS5 specifically I kind want an Edge controller but the price and more importantly, the battery life really put me off.

Not free to play games like Fortnite, Apex, Warzone etc. But to play other paid for MP games yes. (FIFA etc)

Yeah battery life is pretty shit. It's more weighty which I like and it's nice having the instant triggers for shooters, also quite good how you can change the responsive curve of the analogue sticks within the PS menu itself. The paddles are solid, albeit only two of them.

It depends if you'd get the benefits out of it.

My year PS Extra sub runs out end of this month - no deals about either so gonna have to try and stumble through until a sale.

As I posted above - at least if you get a PSN credit/card from somewhere like ShopTo, at like 10-15% off, you will be saving a little money until there is a bigger sale

Yep and in addition to that, there is (ALWAYS) a black friday deal where it's a better than any other time of the year sale on subscriptions.

If you're anything like me, you have a huge backlog of games you own that you could play (and also save money)?

In your shoes, I'd be tempted to wait til November to get Extra again (and get a cheaper Essential sub until then, if you need online (or the historic monthly free games).

If you got Essential for the next 12 months now, you could probably top it up to Extra in November for a reduction of the already reduced (-3months) annual cost for 9 months of Extra

Aesthetically I dont like it. I'm sure it's functional and looks comfortable though.

I just see it as an expensive accessory, you have to own a PS5 to use this. Then use your library to stream games if I've got that right. It'd be more appealing if you could just stream the PS Premium library.

This.

Absolute blunder from SONY here which is rare I think.

I like the new cup headphones though, might get those, they also made a separate pro gaming headset just not Playstation branded which I find off, like they are competing with themselves...

I think you can use it remotely but your PS5 would have to be on rest mode connected to your WiFi. Similarly to how remote play worked on PS Vita.

Playstation Plus subscription prices are going up from September 6th

Essential - £59.99 (from £49.99)
Extra - £99.99 (from £83.99)
Premium - £119.99 (from £99.99)

If you're thinking about making the jump, now is the time because even with a Black Friday 25% discount in November will only take it down to todays current price

Those already locked in I'm afraid you are fucked. Sony wont let you stack on the end of your current one (at least I couldn't find a way). You can still pay your current rate until your current subscription expires but there is no loading 3 years on to get around it

Fuckers. I think I'm on extra til july next year cos of upgrading from essential at some point around blackfriday on a great sale price.

don't think £100 is justifiable for me though - might be a good motivator to move into my backlog for a bit, once i've played the most recent/expensive games i want to on extra

I wouldn't mind too much if I could have stuck an extra year on top of my account. But there are not any voucher codes or ways to pay now to stack it like XBox does.

Guys

I am worn down by God of War and Dark Souls-type games I've been playing recently.  So now I really fancy playing a colorful but challenging platformer.

I am not a massive platform gamer these days, but have got the urge to play one.  Something similar to Astro's Playroom, the game that came with the PS5 would be nice.  I really enjoyed completing that.

Any recommendations, please?

cheers  :wave

I watched some gameplay footage of this and thought it looked kind of 3D

Read a few reviews and it's described as 2.5D :)   Sounds fair, to be honest.

Think I'm gonna go with this.  Or might splash out for the latest Crash Bandicoot (4).

There was also the original Yooka-Laylee, which was actually 3D (and not particularly great). Possible mix up? Impossible Lair is as close as you’ll get to old school Donkey Kong, actually got a hankering to get it again myself now.

Oh yeah, Crash 4 was really good too. Not quite as tough as old Crash games (although still difficult) and loads to replay.

The Playstation state of play was rather great I thought - the starting game was an odd one to show off first (Baby Steps) but looks fun, and you just know it will take over twitch for a couple weeks.
