Always looks a threat from set pieces and its finally been rewarded. Two brilliantly taken headers especially the second where you regularly see people try to absolutely power it into the net and miss

Make this man the captain next season. He's a colossus. He's a nailed on starter when fit. He has a good temperament and leads by example. Top notch player and worth every penny and another 75m more in my opinion.

Sometimes I have these flashes in my imagination of Virgil wearing the sky blue City kit, I can really picture it and it makes me shudder. Can you imagine what that team would be like with the addition of Van Dijk?? Thanks God he chose us! He's just flawless, I've never seen a centre half at Liverpool with absolutely no flaws to his game. It's completely bizarre.

Watching van dijk in the premier league is what world class players must look like in their national leagues before they come to english clubs. He genuinely looks untested for the majority of the season and he plays with such ease. Its like hes in the under 17s and ready to make the step up. The only difference there is no step up. He’s the best defender we’ll ever see

We saw it with Suarez, Bale and C Ronaldo for one season each. We saw it with Henry for many seasons. I guess this is the centre-back edition.

Really happy that we got 2 via his headers today and also great point by Klopp about teams blocking him off in both boxes to draw some attention to the fact.
As some others have mentioned, our corners have generally been poor (hitting the first man a lot of the times, somehow seem to be better on free kicks), tonite was a great blueprint on what we can add as a team if we sort that out. There is no reason our delivery should be worse than say the likes of Burnley who always seem to put it in the mixer...hopefully it is a rythm thing and today should be a confience booster.

If he can add these headers more consistently and do a couple at vital times in games...boy oh boy forget about Sergio Ratmos being mentioned in the same breath as one of the best defenders in the world.

Hopefully now he has that confidence and will go on a Skrtel type run for our run in and add a few more lol that would really help us if we are struggling to break teams down in other ways.

Outstanding. impenetrable. Best defender I've ever seen play for us. He is an absolute colossus. Everything that comes near him, you know he is going to take care of it. Not a better defender in football than this man. Some will try tell you Ramos, because he scores lots and has won lots, but in terms of defending, he isn't even close to this beaut of a man.

Ramos is not a match for Van Dijk in terms of physical attributes. What causes him to be considered to be a top defender is his mastery of the so called dark arts - in other words he seems to have the teflon-like ability to skirt the utter boundaries of legality and to even go over them without seeming to get punished for it often enough.

That's exactly what I was thinking, it sometimes looks like his opponents disappear into oblivion when he intercepts the ball, marvellous.

Not heard anyone recently talk about us overspending on Alisson and Virgil, whereas when they were signed there was plenty of raised eyebrows and questions asked.

We used to expect goals to be scored against us, now it feels like a loss when we concede. They both must be a joy to play with for the rest of the side, and they help Klopp get the best out of everyone else.

Remember when literally everyone was questioning why we didn't just buy another defender when we couldn't get Virgil in the summer, like he wasn't that special and Klopp would just settle for any old defender to fill the gap?! He knew what he was doing.
