He should have passed to Ojo there.  :butt

Calvert "doesn't look up" Lewin was never going to be able to pass there.

Extremely stupid, he's joint second top scorer in tournament and England wouldn't be in the final without him

I'm not writing him off, just giving my opinion on his performance today. He's been average.

I was under the impression video technology was supposed to end giving penalties for dives. That was a horrific dive. Yes there was a minimal nick, as seen in slow mo replay (and you'd coach your defender to never use that technique again!), but it had absolutely no effect on the attacker. The attacker was waiting for the guy to clatter him, so he could get the penalty - but it didn't come, some dived and rolled.

If video technology is just going to affirm every single contentious decision where there is a tiny amount of contact - despite being a contact sport - it's going to be even more disastrous than I expected

Are you watching on a 12" CRT telly with an indoor aerial?  The defender clattered the side of his knee.  Unreal that you think that's a dive.

He's been underwhelming and probably one of England's worst players. His close control has been ordinary and his passing isn't crisp enough. It'd be stupid to write him off on the basis of one game but I expected a bit more.

Hes been shit.

Would this matter much at his age, though?

Just thinking from an experience point of view, playing at the higher level internationally against seasoned pros is far different to playing against lads who largely feature in lower league or PL2 level.

ditto....haven't seen him before.....first impressions are fairly underwhelming, looks rather clumsy on the ball which i wasn't expecting after some of the stuff ive read about him

Give it a few years it will be one team taking all five then the next take their five

The way things go that would not surprise me!
Seems FIFA have tried to come up with some ideas that'll change the game - probably to deflect away from their continued corruption and ineptitude - unfortunately many of these ideas (like enlarging World Cups to 32 teams so some 3rd place teams in Group Stages qualify - so that fewer 'big' nations will fail to qualify, whilst ensuring votes and power from the extra qualifying countries) - and this ABBA penalty system are absolutely shite.

They actually get very well paid (and more in brown envelopes) for this shite.

Rant over - back to the game ;)

Very true mate...now how do I get a job there?
I actually like the new system. It deals with one of my pet-hates about football.

Which is?

We may sign Salah, but I'll show my arse in the middle of town if we sign one of VVD or Keita. Not gonna happen.

Those writing off Solanki behave yourselves he's only young. A couple of years working with Klopp and he will be fine. England would not have reached the final without him.

He's raw, nothing wrong with that. He won't be starting next year.

Klopps seen there's something there and will mould him, As he has many young players before.

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Which is?

The team that goes 2nd can never take the lead in the count without a miss or save.
The pressure on a taker with the count against him is much more than when the count is neutral.

Why are people talking about ABBA like some complex biomolecular formula? Its simply flipping the order of kicks every turn.

It'll be interesting to see how many of these do make it and whether they will be able to play with this much confidence and ambition when they make the senior team. I'd say Walker-Peters, Lookman and Onomah have the best chance based off today alone.

Lest we forget they're playing every few days on another continent. Might be knackered. We're so full of understanding when it's the senior team in a World Cup .... they need their rest, humid conditions etc.

Pretty much mate - he would have finished joint top scorer too if he bagged a goal today - just didn't have a good game in the Final - but certainly helped and contributed to the team get there.
