Im guessing you've never watched him if your saying he isnt a great dribbler and every time ive watched him play it seems to me that he likes to run at people with the ball.
There's a difference between picking up the ball when you've got momentum and receiving the ball from standing and dribbling. He's fast, but doesn't have the burst of acceleration to go from 0-60 that you need from a winger. And yes, I've watched him, which is why I say this. That's not great dribbling. That's the ability to go past players on occasion, but it hardly represents his greatest strength. His greatest strength is his ability to get up and down the flank with pace, running into space. Something which he would not get as a winger.
He can learn to defend while playing for the reserves,if you put him in at LB now he would get turned inside out and caught high up the pitch like he does quite often for the reserves.
Like he did against Pompey and Fulham? Oh wait.
His greatest weakness isn't get caught high up the pitch. That happens to every attacking fullback - We have players in our team to cover that. We might aswell use these defensive midfielders and defenders for something - His greatest weakness is his complacency on the ball when carrying it out of defence. Too many casual passes when he thinks he can get away with it.
As for getting turned inside out? By who? the plethora of quality wingers in the Premiership, most of whom he's quicker than and the vast majority of whom are absolute nothing players anyways.
Just typical of this club at the moment that we've got a precocious talent in a position where we're weak, and we want to use him elsewhere for 'experience'. Fuck him getting experience in the reserves of playing as leftback, and fuck him getting experience as an out of position left-winger. Leave the nothing players who are off in the summer cover that role.
