He been deeper then Virgil on chances or goals over the last 2 years. You should not be deeper then your CB as a Full back for holding the line.
yeah we need to hang him up by his balls for a few weeks.

Weird to see this thread grow a fair bit in criticism, thought he played well for his first start in four months.

Looked back to the form of 18 months ago, just needs to stop that headless chicken chase which lead to their goal.

Thought he was splendid overall. End product wasn't quite there but he was sharp, energetic and dominated that left hand side.

Had a good game. Got a little carried away in the build up to their goal IMHO, but ran up and down the left all day long. He and Lucho worked well today.

Sharp when he came on. His reaction to the bad tackle on him in the build up to the fourth goal worried me more than the satisfaction of the goal - but he seemed to bounce back up eventually.

He varied the tempo nicely on the ball last night, picking moments to crank up the pace or just play intelligent triangles with Diaz and Van Dijk. A tidy little appearance and hopefully means Bradley is good to start on Sunday.

Put a real shift in up and down that left side. Put in some great balls and deserved an assist. Made a good interception when Palmer thought he was about to have a tap in. Well done Robbo.

Was incredible that interception. Hit it wrong and it's either a penalty or an own goal.

Was the only one alert to it, too.

Not sure what’s up with him since his injury, playing like a youngster breaking through rather than an experienced pro. Constantly making poor decisions with his press.

Probably because at his peak, his press works.

Might need to adjust his game, he was never a one dimensional player so not too worried about it.

Or might just be rusty.

His pressing has always been like this. Does these stupid one man press which leave space in behind. Madrid goal in the final 2 years ago springs to mind.

He was like this last season, as you say he needs to adjust his game, kept leaving Quansah with far too much to cover.

If Gomez has to play then I'd rather start Tsimikas at LB, he was playing at a good level pre injury. But Klopp is loyal to a fault at times so I fully expect Robbo to start.
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

You make him sound like he’s 38 and can barely raise a jog.

His pace seems as good as ever. If anything he seems fresher than ever due to his time out, even if perhaps he goes off on his own press too often at times.

I’ve very little doubt he’ll start against City and he won’t let us down if he does

He's missed a huge chunk of the season and when he's come back, he's come back into an injury ravaged team. Maybe just give him a bit of time to get back up to speed instead of suddenly suggesting he should be our 3rd choice LB :D

If he doesn't cut out pushing forward trying to nick the ball and getting passed around then he will let us down. Just be smarter with your press, City won't spurn the chances we gave up last night.

He's a long way away from the 1 man full length pitch press of yesteryear :)

Robertson is a class act, but yes, the headless chicken press routine does need to be pegged back a little.

I can see City targeting that. As soon as he goes on his one man mission they'll just pass around him. Hope Gomez starts until Robbo gets this under control.

No shit

He’s still one of the best left backs in the world you're talking about him like he’s Paul Konchesky.

I don’t see any great drop off in pace. His decision making isn’t always the best but that’s perhaps always been the case. He’s a leader and absolutely the kind of player we need on the pitch on Sunday

Both my son and I were saying last week how he looks refreshed and back on it since the injury, not sure what happened last night as he was all over the place as was Quansah in the first half.

It's risk/reward that all our full backs do though. Don't think it's going to be as simple as be smarter with it when we want them jumping up on to wide players/fullbacks (I assume this is what you mean) Tsimikas got passed round plenty doing this against Southampton for example, it's just the way we want them to play

Maybe the plan was for him to push forward to try and peg back their danger man Preciado, who looked most likely to cause us problems. In the end, he kept pushing forward anyway so we just exchanged chances. We took ours so the plan worked.

Watched the match a second time and it was odd how many times Robbo and Quansah misplaced passes, need to write it off as a bad day at the office. Quansah was so much better when he went to the right, could just be they were weaker on their left. There number 2 looked decent to be fair.

Let's be honest, when he is bad, he is absolutely abysmal. Last night was a good example.

But the calls to drop him are absurd. He's been quietly good since he came back.

The calls to drop Andy are for the biggest game of the year, against the toughest opponent in the league, which could decide the title.  He's still trying to get up to speed and unfortunately his performance yesterday, especially in the first half was shockingly poor.  If we were playing Man City, we would have been down 3 or 4 to nil with Foden/Walker exploiting that space and his mis-timed solo pressing attempts.

I imagine with Robbo playing all 90 that's he's not in line to start, but if he does he's going to have to be a lot smarter than he was yesterday.  This isn't the game to take risks like he was taking yesterday.

Hopefully, he'll be back to his old self soon as he'll be a big part of our final push this season.

Robertson against City will be unrecognizable from the fitness exercise program dont get hurt instructed Robertson against the 5th rate pub team. Rating him on that is a waste of energy. btw the whole team was headless chicken half the time esp in the first half. it didn't matter. Prague were shit. We never left 3rd gear in the whole game, and good.
