seen the goal.  awesome.  the technique he used is unbelievable. firstly, to think about taking a shot, then to get that much power from that distance, then to get it on target, and finally  to beat the keeper is pure and utter class.  only juninho from lyon has the balls and capable of doing the same.  can't wait to see this lad arrive.

last year rafa had more praise for this lad than he did for sissoko.  i can't wait.

What a goal, seen him play a few times now and it looks like Rafa has bought a star in the making.
Can't wait for next season to see him a red shirt.  :thumbup :thumbup Rafa

I saw the picture you are mentioning and the first impression I got was that he can't be Mark Gonzalez. In that picture he looked fatter and shorter, but then he was next to Crouch and the whole Liverpool team, the tallest team in a league of tall players. Definitely it wasn't Bolanos and his ridiculous hair style and head band.

Couldn't have been Bolanos: he plays for Saprissa in Costa Rica. I just saw him play in a match last week, the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. They played Toluca, the defending Mexican League Champions,  in the first leg of the semi-finals of the competiton.
FWIW: they were thoroughly dominated by Toluca, losing 2-0. Bolanos played OK, but largely Saprissa were outclassed by the Mexican champions.

It could well have been Bolanos. He had a trial in January and both clubs decided not to go ahead with any deal. If I recall correctly, Benitez suggested to him that he should go to Spain, because he has a better chance of developing as a footballer. Saprissa had other ideas, naturally...

It may just have been an old photograph.

BTW: Ole! La Liga on Gol TV here in the States shows highlights of each Spanish league fixture. They showed the highlights of the match, and the Gonzalez thunderbolt. Unfortunately, he limped off after a hard tackle near the latter part of the game. Not sure what injury he got.

Is Gonzales injured?

dont think so, he played 90minutes in Sociedads game yesterday (3-0 win). apperantly takes corners as well, was involved in one of the goals and ran the defense ragged at times

I really need to watch him more. It's difficult to expect anything from him to be honest. We don't know if he'll be a regular, a reserve player, a star, or a flop.

Most likely he'll be matched lightly in the beginning.

That wasn't a hotlink, it was just a link. A hotlink would have been displaying the gif inline. Like baz said, why the fuck put it on your site if you don't want people linking to it? And if you want to avoid hotlinks it's easy enough to prevent it server side. Bad netiquette would be failing to understand the issues and then moaning about it like a pansy.

Real Sociedad are in a dog fight to avoid relegation.  Their win should boost confidence, but they play Real Madrid next week.  Alaves and Mallorca are one point ahead of them now, as R Sociedad stands 3rd from bottom!

Alaves have a lot of home games left, but some of them are tough opponents.  I hope Sociedad are saved this season (it would be nice if it were thanks to Gonzales), as they are a decent team with a good history.

Has the look of Reyes about him.  Quick and light footed, all left foot and takes on his man willy nilly.  But is technically is inferior to the Spaniard IMO.

Still, a more willing to run off the ball alternative to the more involved with the ball style of Kewell.

This could be our midfield next year.

Simao - Alonso - Gerrard - Gonzalez

Maybe a bit too latin for some of the die hards though

a cut from the echo

RAFA BENITEZ says the successful loan spell of Mark Gonzalez to Real Sociedad has underlined the Chilean winger's potential to have a major impact at Anfield.

The 21-year-old has earned rave reviews in La Liga since returning to Spain in January.

Gonzalez was forced into a move when his first application for a British work permit was rejected.

Benitez is hopeful there will be no such obstacles preventing Gonzalez's arrival this summer.

And the Spanish boss isn't disguising his excitement at the prospect of working with the South American, who he's sure will be a big hit on Merseyside.

"Mark is playing really well in Spain. He's been one of the best players for Real Sociedad, and all the reports have been impressive about him," said Benitez.

"He has been playing good football against all the top clubs in Spain, including those who are doing well in the Champions League and include some of the best defenders in Europe.

"He has shown he can be a player who can be a fantastic signing for us when he is given the opportunity. I know he will be liked by our supporters because of the qualities he has with his pace, his technical ability and his bravery.

"I'm sure he will give us a lot of very enjoyable afternoons watching him play."

Gonzalez is hopeful of securing a European passport ahead of the start of next season, otherwise the Reds will face another anxious wait to see if the playes fulfils work permit criteria.

Benitez and his scouts have compiled an impressive video dossier highlighting Gonzalez's many excellent displays for Albacete and Real Sociedad.

"Mark was injured for a long time and needed to improve his fitness, but now he's back to the level he was when we decided to sign him," added Benitez.

Obviously rates him very highly. He built up Sissoko and Reina and look at the difference they've made. I'd say give Rafa a chance, he's often right.
