That was about 8 bids ago!

Not to be that guy, but even if we get Caicedo we would still need a second midfielder IMO. Lavia would be even more ideal in that scenario, as we wouldn't be pinning all our hopes on him and he's a different enough type to Caicedo that they could play together.

Maybe Andre will be the second midfielder regardless. What I'd say is that we're in a slight self inflicted pickle if it's Caicedo + Andre, because we'd be at capacity on the non homegrown side which means a CB (unless homegrown) is probably contingent on a departure. Would also mean poor Ben Doak couldn't play in the Europa League, but guess that's not a big concern?

I think we'd be okay if we did get him, a 2nd would be more of a luxury. We'd have 7 (plus potentially Trent or Gakpo).

If we lost Thiago then yeah, but that would also give us the extra non-HG spot.
Could have done with Grujic and even Chirivella to tide us over this season

How is this going to get Southampton to lower the price? If anything, won't it tell S'hampton we've got £100m in the transfer fund?
Oldest trick in Marketing and Negotiation- create "urgency"(its brother is Mr. "scarcity").
They now have an unsettled player in a pivotal year for them, and they're gunna lose even that "measly" 4xmillion pounds. The season starts in a few days.
He won't be near that valuation next season, IF they come back up.

It's squeaky-bum time!

I believe Ben Doak doesn't count as 'home grown' for the Europa anyway.

I'm sure I read that somewhere?

Happy to be corrected.

No, he doesn't count as homegrown for EL purposes - which means we need to keep a non-homegrown spot free for him, or he can't feature.

If we genuinely are trying to negotiate a fee with Brighton then we must have been speaking to him and he must have given us some indication that he'd consider a move. I'm still of the view that this is all Brighton and us working together to smoke out Chelsea to up their most recent offer sooner rather than later.

Why would we do that ?
No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.

We must have had some encouragement from the players agent / entourage that he would be keen on moving to Liverpool..would be stupid to bid knowing he wants Chelsea…..but then again he wanted Arsenal in January.

Could be he wants London.

Chelsea are still the favorites because they have agreed personal terms with Caicedo and his agent. If we also agree the personal terms with him and his agent (it seems that is what is going on at the moment), we will make our bid ...

Why be difficult when it’s a blank cheque which would help Brighton bring in 3 replacements? The window ticks on and Brighton have less time to get in who they want. Would have been better to accept the Chelsea bid and got round to spending.

Chelsea's last bid was £75+5 million, some £20 million lower than Brighton's valuation of the player. Also, we don't know the payment terms of their bid, but it was rejected immediately, so I suppose it was not that favorable for Brighton. So basically, it was not a blank cheque for them ...

Brighton want Moisés Caicedo saga to be over in 24 hours — by the end of the week in any case 🔵⚠️

◉ Brighton have decided to sell Moisés to the highest bidder — then it will be up to the player’s preference.

🔴 Liverpool will bid for sure, tonight or onFriday — expected to be more than £80m Chelsea bid days ago.

🔵 Chelsea also remain on it with their bid — and with the possibility to improve that proposal if they want.

◉ Chelsea keep their ‘dream’ to unveil Caicedo as new signing at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

◉ Liverpool want to try for Caicedo as they feel it’s good chance after 3 bids rejected for Roméo Lavia.

◉ Bayern called Brighton earlier to be informed on Caicedo situation but didn’t follow up with a bid.

No - I think they can still long ones, I thought the players they signed this window were on 7/8 years?

The length of contract was to amortise the transfer fee.

They are probably offering 100k more than we will.

Depends how high Chelsea are willing to go. If you're prepared to pay a club record fee you'd expect a wage bill to match. He wouldn't be matching Mo's salary but at least in line with our next highest earners/what we were paying Henderson/Fabinho.

Even Keita/Ox were on about 100k, maybe a bit more.

That briefing to Liverpool journos on 'due diligence should a deal with Chelsea collapse' feels more and more like the club trying to make Chelsea think we weren't an immediate threat for Caicedo, and buy time to do the deal.

So probably 200k…..going to be an interesting. 24hrs.

Personally think he will take us up a level…..interesting that he will be more expensive based on the fee than Jude B.

Hope we get him.  But if we have paid for 2 release clauses in full already….can’t imagine we want to pay a big chunk up front.
