Short answer, no. Some selling clubs will just to let it be known that a club are bidding in the hope of driving up the price (Southampton), while the bidding club might just do it to show their fans that they’re doing something (Everton, probably).

Liverpool’s plan was to spend their budget on a number of players and instigate a midfield overhaul that has been long overdue.

Deals for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been sealed for a combined outlay of £95 million and they have so far been willing to lavish a further £45 million on Lavia.

That chunk remains unspent and Liverpool have, of course, recouped £52 million through the unexpected sales of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Al-Ittihad and Al-Ettifaq respectively.

While the funds would appear in place for what would be a club-record deal for Caicedo, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool are actually presented with the chance to land him.
