I think we can now safely put to bed the idea, once and for all, that Acheterberg is a negative effect coach. Becker's talent is huge, but his standards haven't been corrupted by sub-standard coaching, which is what happens with sub-standard coaches. Achterberg may not be the best keeper coach around, but he's a bloody good one all the same.
Bruce Grobbelaar came to NY to do publicity for the US Tour this Summer. He did a few interviews, I listened to one yesterday where he quietly but accurately was talking about the Messi free kick and how the GK or coach should have known how to construct a wall better.
It was not controversial, but Bruce put in his two cents. Essentially, he said the wall construction was wrong. That Gomez was in line with the post instead of the second man VVD --- making the curl of Messi shot easier to get around. He placed this firmly at the feet of the GK'er or coach.
Now, I was not in practice so I do not know who's responsibility it rested on... but Bruce said it and I thought it was interesting.
And then we see Matip take one of the face the next time out at Anfield in proper position.
