Thats kinda what I meant by a payoff. It’s likely these payments are made in a lump sum rather than over the course of what would have been their contract.

Absolutely. It's not just that he's poor, all teams buy poor players, but his insane salary has set a new and completely unsustainable precedence for the rest of the players. If they would have paid 30M and a normal salary it would have been less of a problem. He's also unsellable of course, since he'd be lucky to get a quarter of that salary somewhere else. I think they'll end up paying for him to leave, and that's probably the smart thing to do for the squad.

I'd probably prefer them to win. A loss, coupled with an Arsenal win leaves them 5 points behind with only 4 to play. Arsenal's fixtures mean it's unlikely they win out, but with United being so shit, they are unlikely to haul back 5 points over 4 games.

There's no right and wrong though. Either way, they can't really afford to lose on Wednesday
