Saw some people on my Snapchat sending some snaps from the Maribor game which was bad enough. But the atmosphere came across so bad, I've seen more atmosphere at a morgue. I know Maribor aren't exactly the most glamorous of sides but come on, it's a Champions League night ffs.

..is a top post Timbo.

The crowd shouldnt have to be inspired by the team, this should be a joint effort.
I do fear for the future & have done for many years simply because i believe average joe has been priced out of the game.
The soul has already been ripped out of the game mainly because of this,i have many ardent red mates who went home an away every week who barely get to a few home games now.
Fucking grim i tell ya.
Seen an headline on the bbc earlier saying Lfc is now rivalling Arsenal for the most expensive seat in the prem..didnt read it,the headline was enough to make me sick.

maribor was the worst european night atmosphere iv witnessed, was in upper centenary mind.... although it seems a case of someone waiting for the songs to start then it develops i joined in with the kop and others seemed keen to join in

although this "scousers want the atmosphere more" is rubbish
i heard 1 lad get laughed at by locals because he "even brought his scarf for YNWA" ??

they never sang a word then moaned for half hour,

its not about where your from its all about backing the team and having a positive impact deffo some locals doing the opposite

Although we're in the CL Maribor was always going to have the feel of a mundane Europa League group game, especially after we'd just beat them 7-0.

We need the atmosphere highly charged for Spartak which will probably be a decider for getting through. We're then capable of raising it again for the knockouts.

It's domestic games that are the problem with us.

Could have done with Grujic and even Chirivella to tide us over this season

One of the comments about having 25000 passionate rather than a full house with day-trippers , one of the best European atmospheres was with a gate of about 30000 against auxerre

What i always admired about the Kop was the spontanaiety of everything, the reaction, or prediction of things unfolding or about to happen. That of course and the amazing wit of some key individuals who used to shout out the funniest of things, that used to make me smile like a Cheshire cat.

We have got so much tradition and so many songs, thats what the club has to try to keep before its gone and restore what has been lost so far. Its everyones responsibility, don't think its someone elses.

Was in U1 today, after forking out £9 for a ticket.  Thank fuck I didn't buy a Kop ticket for £40,  the Kop looked so miserable, all sat down in apathetic silent collusion.  Oh dear oh dear!   I imagine we will see an improvement next week against the plastics.

I noticed YNWA is starting earlier recently. Didn't Gerrard ask for it to be sang while the teams are on the pitch for maximum effect?
That could explain the weaker renditions recently - fans are creatures of habit so are ready to go when the teams are on the pitch and the team has been announced.  I thought it was good at that timing - can't think why we'd change it.

I am sure it has been mentioned before but, until some point in the ‘90s ??, it was only the first few bars of YNwA  that were played over the PA. The Kop sang the rest.  If you’d have talked about starting it too early then, folk would have just laughed in your face.

It's absolutely baffling why they've started playing it before the teams are out. That's three league games in a row now, started at the United game.

Hope that idea is ditched VERY soon because it just doesn't have the same impact. Played at 2.54 today, terrible rendition (slightly better than at the Huddersfield game, but not by much)

Then there's the bizarre sight of the team stood about while there's silence from the stands for a few minutes before ko in the time slot where YNWA would normally be!

Put it back to when the teams have shaken hands, and are taking their sides of the pitch please, powers that be!!

It was good to hear the main stand near the away fans, after a long rendition from the away fans asking Lovren why he's such a c*** they responded with Dejan Lovren, he's winning 3-0 and cheered his every touch.
And on the 6th day he created the Spion Kop, and then he rested.

The last two YNWA's have been fucking bizzare. Firstly the early timing of it and secondly it's descended into a half arsed effort.

To be fair, those c*nts were giving him stick from the off and we just sat there saying fuck all for the most part.

This playing of YNWA before the players enter the pitch needs to stop. Quite frankly, it's a shit idea and needs to be knocked on the head.

Nice banner floating down the Annie Road end before the kick-off. First time I've seen that.

Overall, it was better than Huddersfield, but really, a near empty stadium would've toppled the atmosphere on that day.

YNWA was always played 5 minutes before the players came out and that allowed the Kop to chant individual players' names before kick off. It was Rafa who changed the tradition. Being an auld arse I prefer the original format particularly as any new chants could be aired and joined in with. It was especially good when a player who didn't usually have a song heard a new one and sometimes responded with a wave.

Quickly forgotten eh how that pre-match ritual of the Kop trying to get thro the individual songs prior to kickoff, that interaction/wave would have defo given them a boost.

Bet that was class when it used to happen like that!  :)

Unfortunately I’m guessing that’s from an era where even if the internet had been around, pretty sure there wouldn’t have been a 222 page thread needed about improving the atmosphere!

As it is now, the decision to move YNWA is killing off one of the few genuinely atmospheric moments you were guaranteed at every game - even if it’s just your ‘regular’ Saturday 3pm PL game

I have to agree about YNWA being odd as f*ck. It was played well earlier than usual & there was just a whole lack of enthusiasm with it.

Definitely not a timing issue - games always used to kick off dead on time.

And as I said in an earlier post, now there’s this weird time where there’s just nothing, while the captains are in the centre circle with the ref etc
