Which Spurs poster on here kept going on about how Bale wasn't being sold just a couple weeks ago? Been evident for a while.

Say what you want, but Daniel Levy is a fucking genius.

Just wow. Mario Gotze, 34 million, Neymar 50 million, Thiago Alcantara 24 million. Gareth Bale 93 million.

Beyond fucking absurd.

Less to do with Levy's genius than Madrid's absurdity, this.

Probably me. I didn't think he'd go this season - thought it would be next year. I didn't expect Madrid to bid such a ridiculous fee though

1 CB and 1 Lamela away from title challengers.

4th is gone unless us and Arsenal buy big over the next week.

Some serious, serious underrating of their squad. People clearly haven't seen Paulinho (immense player) and Lamela (he'll be worth 60 milion in 3 years imo, outrageous talent)

How do you feel about it now it's finally happened mate? Happy with the fact that your club is majorly in the money and your manager has already hugely strengthened your squad or worried about how the team will step up without their talisman?

We could have so easily done something similar. Instead we bought Downing, Carroll, Adam , Henderson (whose done alright to be fair) for 80 million. You reap what you sow and all...

Me (amongst others).

I thought Real wouldn't actually pay £93m, I couldn't conceive of it in fact. If they have offered that though, then it's a no brainer! His quality is of around £60m - and that's pushing it! I think Real are mad to pay that much, when they could pay less next season and have another 12 months to be sure his real quality level.

Fair dos though, if he goes for £90m+ then that's a fabulous deal.

Great deal for Spurs & these great incomings should kick Spurs up the league a few spots. Also cant wait to see Madrid play!

Bale is a good player, but it confuses me when people say things like "Spurs are going to miss Bale rescuing them 3 points every game", "They won't be able to replace him" etc.

If they assemble a good team, they won't need to rescue games. They will just win them. Personally, I think anyone who thinks Bale for, potentially, Paulinho, Soldado, Willian, Contraeo, Capoue and Lamela is nothing short of an amazing upgrade is mental.

If all these deals go through, and they hit the ground running, I would say they have the 3rd best team in the league, possibly minus their defence.

Whatever chance we did have of getting 4th, will certainly be a lot less likely now.

Spin it however you like, but the squad they're shaping looks capable of not only breaching the top 4, but hitting pretty hard within the CL itself.

Less to do with Levy's genius than Madrid's absurdity, this.

Complete agree. They (Real Madrid) are absolutely stupid. No way he is worth that amount of money. But they're like someone who emotionally commits to making a big purchase, regardless of the cost. They've told all their mates, they're getting it and can't imagine life without it. I think Bale is going to suffer for having that price tag over his head. At least with Ronaldo, he'd won the CL and numerous PL titles. He'd had that the wink saga and managed the press hysteria with that. He had that mental toughness, arrogance and self-belief.

Does Bale? Bale's had a great season and a bit and a few years ago was known more for being a jinx and would have been sold to Nottingham Forest had it not been for injuries. Bale is now going to have to deal with media comparisons to Ronaldo.  He probably isn't ready for that, but who knows if Madrid will come calling again, once they move on to another target they must have like Kaka and Ronaldo were a few years back.He hasn't had a preseason, so he's hardly going to come flying out the blocks, which he'll be expected to do. I won't be surprised if he's back in England playing for Man Utd in three years time. As for Spurs, they'll have managed to bolster their team, although I'd have thought they would have added perhaps another forward and added to the defence if they wanted a more complete upgrade.

I'm surprisingly optimistic! As good as Bale's been for us - we all know he's not worth close to 90-100 million. That's just ridiculous money. So yeah, I'm "ok" with him going now I think. Quite excited by it all really! If we can get Lamela I'll be positively beaming

Are they really that much stronger than a few seasons ago when they had Bale, Modric and Van der Vaart in top form? I don't feel they are considering they never really replaced Modric and VdV. Biggest difference for me is that their manager now, unlike then isn't an imbecile.

That imbecile got them into the CL and 4th the season after. I hate Redknapp as much as the next person but Villa Boas got his team to finish a position below.

and shittier. Ronaldo had scored 42 goals and won the ballon d'or before they paid 80 million for him, at least that was relatively understandable.

this is beyond belief. to be fair, we can't call them mental, we paid 35 million for a glorified geordie horse.
