That imbecile got them into the CL and 4th the season after. I hate Redknapp as much as the next person but Villa Boas got his team to finish a position below.
but they were better.

they got more points. Saying they finished a position below ignores the fact that Arsenal clearly upped their game in order to deny spurs 4th. Would spurs of last season have got 4th the season before? In all likelihood, yes.

Spurs should buy that and send it off to Madrid First Class (delivery). Madrid wouldn't know the difference.

You know what, fair play to Spurs. They've spent the Bale money like we should have spent the Torres money. Wasting that money on completely average players has set us back years. I'm disappointed to see a lot of decent players go there (Lamela especially) but I have to say they've done well.

I'd say that they are definite favourites for 4th and we'll be hard pressed to beat them, but I still reckon there's a chance. Their attack will be completely new and some could easily flop/not gel/get injured or whatever. I think we'll give them a fight and we'll be in the running for 4th but it will be a difficult one to win. Hopefully we'll be in a similar situation next year where we get a lot of cash from Suarez and reinvest it into the team like they've done.

They won't win the league or come close to it I don't think, but they are in for a decent season. If I was a Spurs fan I'd be excited.

A question for Spurs fans. Are you worried at all that AVB could be off to a club like PSG or whoever should you lot have a good season? I know there was talk about it earlier in the summer but nothing came of it. Do you think he'd go or do you believe that he's in it for the long haul?

If they get Lamela with William, that is trouble for us.  God, I really hope they don't get Lamela.  I was okay with them only getting William but getting them both has seriously strengthened their attack.  It would be hilarious if we hijacked the Lamela deal - we can dream I guess...

Your assets are on the pitch. Bales goals brought them 26 points last year, his assists 6

So presuming something like.....

                                    Soldado
Lamela                                                             Willian

..... infront of 3 of Dembele, Sandro, Paulinho & Capoue.

Still think Spurs are lacking creativity in the team especially with teams playing deep. Not seen alot of Willian only stats but Lamelas game thrived on supply in the final third from the particularly Totti & to a lesser extent the likes of Pjanic.

They are not our problem anymore. Worrying times for Utd, city and Chelsea.

               Soldado

Willian     Dembele  LAmela

             Paulinhi  Sandro

If they can add one decent LB thats one hell of a team. Levy or Baldini whoever it is, genius.

why do so many people seem to think this spurs side will hit the ground running and just gel instantly?
there's bound to be a bedding in period which will cost them points.

or that all these new signings are 100% sure to even deliver?
or even get along with other?

also, this will be Villa Boas' first time managing a club for more than one season, so he's unproven over that length of time.
all the jobs he's had, have been one season long.

this isn't Football Manager, it's real life.
there's lots of unanswered questions and variables yet to play out before spurs can start thinking they're the new Real Madrid, as some on here seem to believe.

The wages can't be right as that's only around 46k a week.  Surely, he isn't on those wages.

It's interesting to see Spurs spending the money on top class players. It's also interesting to see that these players actually have the desire to play for Spurs. But, if there's anything that Man City or Chelsea (even QPR to a certain extent) have taught us is that a team that looks good on paper does not mean that it will look good on the field. A team has to gel and that will require time. Despite Arsenal having all their injury woes, I still think they have that extra edge over Spurs. Only time will tell.

It may be, if he's coming from a place where 20k/week will buy you half the city (the half with the watering holes)... Regular folks there earn 200 euros a month...

And Christopher Samba is getting 100K a week. There is no way that Willian was only on 40K a week at Anzhi and will have wanted a pay rise to move to Spurs.

I'd think you're right, but I wouldn't know. Many East European teams, big and small, have become a stepping stone for South American players to move to the big European leagues.

That is true but Willian made that move to Shaktar, a 30M move from there will have no doubt come with a big pay rise, especially when the team he moved to is splashing out on transfers and wages lef,t right and center.

Yet we thought Coutinho and Sturridge will take time to adjust, Willian and Mikhy would link up pretty well with our players.

They all are quality players, it will be a matter of time before they play awesome football  >:(.

It's not quite over but as it stands Tottenham are the big winners from the transfer market on paper.  Assuming the Bale deal goes through then they've gone from being a team totally reliant on one man to strengthening across various positions.  And they'll have done it all with pretty much a zero net spend.  Impressive.

Of course things can go wrong in that some players may not gel or work out in the PL, but on paper it looks very impressive.

Impressive.

Not really.
They didn't strike a single bargain or discover a single unknown talent.
All they did was spend the entire chunk of money that Real gave them on good players.
Only impressive thing is the amount of money they got for Bale.

Given that they are a club not in the CL, they do not seem to have struggled attracting this top talent though, which is an argument put forward for our own failure to sign some of the bigger value players.

Now there is an argument to say that they have paid over the odds, but on paper I would say that their team looks far better with these signings and no Bale than with just Bale.  Now I might be proven wrong if some of these new faces don't work out, but as we stand right now they look well placed to put Arsenal under serious pressure this season.

We'd need to overperform to ridiculous degrees to get 4th this year.

We still have better strikers than them. That's all you need to do well in this league.
