Why not look at Roque Santa Cruz?

He's much better than Cole and on his way from City.

He's a big man with decent touch. He'd be a much better partner than Cole for Torres.

only thing that worries me about santa cruz is his work rate. we need someone who'll put in a shift when things arnt looking too good. and will he do that? agree he's much better than cole though.

That's them, but what about us? The loss of Champions League revenue is at most 35m or so - if you win it - and more likely averages around the 12-15m mark.

But consider the fact that NESV showed up out of nowhere and plunked down 217m quid in cash for the club. Even if they were to spunk 100m in the first transfer window (which I think you will agree is highly unlikely), that'd only bring their initial investment from Epic Swindle to about Fair Market Value.

If you're eying a house that's on the market for six to eight hundred thousand, and you pluck it out of a distressed owner's hands for three hundred thousand, putting only 217,000 down, don't you think you could afford new windows?

And the Stan Chart deal partially offsets the CL loss (as does the Europa a bit).  With little interest burden, our cash flow should look pretty decent.

Think Cole scored two goals in league game for first time in his career against Fulham. We should be aiming for better.

We've already got an injury prone striker and City wouldn't sell him to us.

Yep. Cole has only scored twice in the Fulham game, in the league.

We were never going to get number 19 that season and we were facing a battle for 4th, losing Alonso was massive. I said at the time we would struggle for fourth and 1st was never a possibility, it does not please me to be right but I was stating the obvious in my opinion. How any bookie or pundit had us down for a title is beyond me.
Well most of us didn't expect 7th.

I remember saying to mates that I thought we'd win the league IF we kept Mascherano and Alonso.
When we didn't, I thought "hmmm wait and see", and then it all unfolded horribly.

Anyway, we've strayed off topic somewhat.
All I was saying was that we let Spurs in, rather than them forcing their way in.
And given that City are now the richest of the lot and looking sweet for a top4 spot, forcing our way in any time soon is going to be very difficult.

Doom, gloom, moan etc...

Carlton Cole would not improve us in any way. He's technically useless and barely scores.

So why sign him?

I don't understand them not wanting to sell to us.

How is a player not good enough for them going to make us a threat to their place?

Bridge would be a good shout. He's much better than Konchesky...but so am I.

Gervinho would be alright, but I just get the feeling he isn't good enough. By that I'm not questioning his talent, he's undoubtedly a good player, but he could turn out like Maxi has for us- a good player who you want in your team, but not necessarily good enough to be considered as a top winger or striker.

However, Gervinho has got progressively better as he has joined bigger clubs, after moving from Le Mans to Lille his scoring output increased incredibly. Maybe a move to a club where he will have more chances fashioned for him would increase his output even more, although he would be playing better defences. Wenger's a fan as well, but he was also a fan of Babel.

Only seen Gervinho in the World Cup (ie: not seen him much at all). He was quite impressive there, challenging pace and some skill. We certainly need a winger with pace and trickery. Quite like Matt Jarvis in that regard, actually, as well.

gomez is suddenly back in contension at munich. and he's knocking in the goals. especially in the CL. can't see him coming now. think we missed that boat in the summer due to how fucked we were financially.

Bayern said that under no circumstances did they want to let him go, there was no boat to miss.
Frankly I don't think Mario Gomez would score that many goals for us, we are so fucking rubbish most of the time and create so little. I swear to god 90% of the unbelievably huge amount of goals that Mario Gomez scores are from about 4 yards out after the keeper has spileld the ball to his feet. Its remarkable, because I honesty don't think he's all that great... but he's fucking rattling them in this season.

I thought that was just them not wanting him to go on loan? read somewhere the bayern president saying we couldn't get him because we were up against the wall financially.

If we can get Fernando Llorente for a reasonable sum I'm okay with City landing Dzeko for a transfer fee we can't (and shouldn't) compete with.

I'd reluctantly settle for Aguero meself

A tad hyperbolic mate. He was class at the world cup, in an Ivory Coast squad that had to play without Drogba from the beginning of the tournament. He was their most dangerous player. Quick on the flank, which some on here have been calling for. Can play on either wing, and has netted both assists and goals this season.

We could do a lot worse!

yeah dont worry they will sell him when he starts his next long barren spell.
if he and james beattie were English and German towns they would be twinned im sure.

Nonsense ... Mario Gomez has always scored a lot of goals in the Bundesliga, apart from his first season in the league (he was 20 at the time), and his first season at Bayern ...

2010 - 2011    15      12

True but then again none of us have any idea what is going on in the background. I think the H&G times have left many in the idea that we will never get decent players again so as i said lets see what Mr. Henry is made of before we pass judgement, still Hodgson worries me no end.

Only ever seen Marin a couple of times and looks good, never seen Holtby. I watched a bit on Sahin recently and he looks the business but again I don't know alot about him.
