He shouldn't be anywhere near wearing a Red shirt can't believe Hodgson tried to buy him in the Summer.

Not exactly turned on by it myself mate but if he comes we get behind him.
He might turn out to be a decent signing. You just dont know.

1. The new owners have not signed anyone yet.

2. Lets wait and see who they do want, i know its Roy but lets us wait and see what happens. Carlton Cole wont come i hope but if they want to seand out a warning this is not it, i think they know that.

What if Roy has asked the club to consider Cole against the targets Comolli has come up with. What if Comolli has made contact so he can estimate price and wages against his other targets. What if Comolli just wants to sit down with the owners and Roy and say, Cole will cost this much, at this age he will not hold his value in 4 years time, he'll want this wage and here are his statistics. The other options are x player with better statistics, a marginally higher fee but lower wages and he should be worth more than his fee 4 years down the line and will still be in his prime. Maybe they are just getting the options down on paper and Comolli is just humoring him. Maybe. Hopefully.

how can you get behind a player you have no confidence in? that's like asking us to get behind roy. I appreciate the sentiment mate but I just can't back someone like cole.
if he proves me wrong and came here and knocked in double figures between january and may i'll admit I was wrong. but...I doubt it.

Carlton Cole won't come here. I am almost sure of that. Doesn't fit into any category that Comolli and FSG want.

so if a player on the same basis as Carlton Cole joins in the transfer window, would we lose our confidence in Comolli and the new owners?

Just a thought.

I think we'd certainly have to question their actions. as a signing like that would go against everything they've been prieching since they arrived.

Carlton Cole would be a terrible signing. He showed a little bit of potential when he was young. He hasnt done anything in his whole career thats made me think he could succeed at LFC. Something like 55 career league goals. No thanks

I'd have Gomez but he seems to be in demand again at Bayern.

yeah dont worry they will sell him when he starts his next long barren spell.
if he and james beattie were English and German towns they would be twinned im sure.

We were never realistically in for Dzeko.  Not at the money he's going for.  The price of Cole (around 7-9 or so million) sounds more like our price range.

How do you know that? The new owners have a history of paying top dollar for the biggest stars in MLB, we do not know yet what they will really want to spend as they are clever enough to keep this information to themselves until the cheque book is required. Anything else is guesswork.

If NESV are replacing Hodgson soon, then obviously they won't let him make any signings.

If, however, they're giving Hodgson the rest of the season, then I'm worried that they'll let him make stop-gap signings to make a run a fourth place.

If a manager is going to be gone in a few months, you don't let him make expensive signings.  If we understand our new owners' intentions well enough, then certainly they'd prefer a younger manager with the potential to build a dynasty to come in during the summer.

Allowing Hodgson to sign Cole makes absolutely no sense.  Not when the manager you have in mind for the future prefers a completely different style of play than Hodgson.

I really hope that NESV and Comolli get this window right, even if means only bringing in teenagers for the future.

I wouldn't focus too much on the fee, it's mainly the wages that are the deciding factor. City can offer a far bigger overall package.

Yup, s'what I meant.  I can't see our new owners coming in and then splashing out crazy money on a fee and wages for the latest hot striker on the market.  Not straight away, at least.

We werent going to get him, with City involved.
But atleast we were interested.
7-9m is not our price range. We can easily afford to spend more. The owners have proved that in baseball.

The point is these players were ok under Rafa and excuses were made. The majority of threads are now directed towards attacking our current manager when we have been signing mediocre players for years.

The worst player ever signed by the club was Robbie Keane. And these three you're suggesting aren't far behind that.

well roy did sign Paul Konchesky, Christian Poulsen,, so When we are linked to charlton cole it does seem like Roy hodgson is behind it, the only thing stopping him is Comolli thank god and jesus allah buddah and throw tom cruise in there for that.
