Not the place for it, but I agree with Barton and I haven't said that very often.

I second that.

But you cannot blame yossi for his comment, israelis are very patriotic even moreso with the national service all israelis have to do.

Even when Barton speaks sense, he has to be a childish prick and ruin it. So if you have bad grammar you are instantly stupid? I can't stand him.

Yossi's reply is trash whichever side of the debate you favour, but he is right in calling Barton out on it. I like that Barton has tried to turn his life around and takes a keen interest in art and politics and improving his knowledge, but really we don't need footballers talking about the situation in Israel. We're talking about an ongoing crisis which academics who have spent decades of their life researching still fail to have conviction on.

Bit harsh when English isn't Yossi's first language too. But yeah, Yossi's tweet was very poor.

Barton is spot on.

I wouldn't be too critical of Yossi though, because as someone has mentioned, it is a highly patriotic country, with all able bodies required to do a minimum of (dont quote me on the time span) 2 years in the Israeli Defence Force. It is also a war that has been ongoing for a long, long time. Each side will be set in their ways, and who can blame them I suppose. Obviously being neutral, as most of us are, allows us to see it from a more rational point of view.

That's actually very class from Barton,he still had the decency to end with wishing him and loved ones to be safe.

Keep in mind,Yossi is the one that attacked Barton's tweet first out of nowhere with that thrashy shameful response.

I don't disagree with what Barton is saying. But Barton classes himself as this great intellectual and I think it's very short sighted to pick on someone's grammar in a debate, seems incredibly childish. Especially when, as redgriffin said, it's not his first language.

Petty argument I know, but it just sums Barton up for me.

Have to laugh at Barton correcting Yossi's grammar and then he replies "because a fictional book from thousands of years ago tells you can."

Aye, it's a bit rich considering Barton's own grammar is garbage.  I presume it's Yossi's second language as well.

Agree with you mate, should we all keep quiet because we aren't academics or politicians? Barton is a Muppet but his support for the people being affected is spot on.
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

I don't think it's right that people ignorantly wade in to sensitive issues as I imagine Barton's done, but to say you have to be an academic to have an opinion or to voice it is dangerous, the political class has vested interest. Politics or economics aren't compliated anyone can understand them, it's the political class that obscures matters justifying the existance of a profession which does little to contribute to the world.

It's stupid to try and "debate" the subject on Twitter. And Barton's tweet is the perfect example for that. Yes, it is wrong to kill children, but Barton makes it look like there's a side that's good and a side that's bad, when they are both as bad as each other. And he makes it look like the "West" only had to say "Stop it" and everything was fine which is simply stupid when the matter has been an issue for almost 100 years and no viable solution has been found in all those years.

An oddball yes - but an interesting character...a phrase as rare as a rocking horse laxatives when describing footballers.....has the balls to speak out about Hillsborough as well....something that the snide kunts posting on this thread about his pseudo-intellectualism would do well to remember.

Do we not believe in redemption and rehabilitation though? He's trying to turn his life around and it's refreshing to hear a footballer, someone that can have an actual effect on issues and reach out to a larger audience, speak out on important matters.

I know he's not a one man crusade for resolving the crisis and could be a little subtler with his words at times, but he's intelligent enough to see what's going on and calls it as it is.

Barton makes it look like there's a side that's good and a side that's bad, when they are both as bad as each other.

That's really not the case though.Number of attacks and casualties tell the truth. But I guess this should be discussed in another thread.

Do you really think the vile oppressive behaviour of Israel against Palestinians over the past 60 years is not one of the crimes of the century?. If you think there is a fair fight going on you need another think. The west screwed up when we decided in the 40's to give away a country we did not own to give away. The Zionist methods of maintaining control by denying the Palestinians basic resources like roads, settlement, clean drinking water and a chance to earn a living is a total disgrace. There is a small scale war over there, but there is only one side acting as oppressor.
