I love pub culture. Both the history of the buildings and architecture, but also the history a set of regulars can tell you.
I'll spend hours sitting in pubs talking to strangers, passing the time of day. I've even been known to like the odd pint or
two ten.
I have in my posession, all four volumes by Freddy O'Connor(Bluecoat Press), from the late 90's - A pub On Every Corner - now sadly, all out of print.
Just incase the North Enders don't recognise the South ender pubs, and the South Enders, don't recognise the Noth enders pubs, we'll keep it simple, and stay in the city centre for this excersise.
Instead of doing the usual guessing game, I though it might be an idea for a 'then and now' topic.
Due to the B/W photo's being scanned from the book, the quality is not great on some of them.
All of the modern photo's have been taken in the last 18 months, and although recent, a couple have already been repainted to look somewhat different.
I've deliberately chosen pubs that are still standing (I'm not as cruel as some people
) to show the differences.
Some pubs have changed very little in the last 100/150 years. Some you probably wouldn't recognise.
