Excellent stuff Tsar.

Some really interesting things in there, The Commando Squad and such. Puts a lie to the rosy tinted myth that things were better back in those days with no gangs of violent youths or villany.
And the photo's...the cars.. Cooper S Mk2's, I remember them well (still got my Mk 3 S underwraps in the garage..some day I'll get it back on the road...).
I don't do polite so fuck yoursalf with your stupid accusations...

The roll of honour in there has got me thinking mate. My uncle was a serving copper & went to France in the 2nd world war were he dug a shallow grave with his bayonet for his mate after he was shot. The man was later given a proper burial in France. In the 1980's my uncle eventually found his grave after hours of searching. I'm sure his name was Ken and there is a Ken in there.

Just isolating this one from that Pathe News site...it's the 1967 FA cup game against Everton that was relayed to Anfield.

Heard about this game but first time ever seen any footage ( didn't even know it existed ).

Cheers !

Thats's fooking brill

So many shots around the city, ( too many to mention ) if you are old enough to pick out the landmarks, and buildings..... and streets....and shops....  :wave

11.45  Top end of Seel Street, with what is now LaGo on the left, and the old metropolitain straight ahead.

19.50. -- sliding road crash -- on Hope Street/Huskisson Street, junction , in front of Gambier terrace, -- behind the Anglican cathedral

26.20.... jeez. The Town Hall looks a bit the worst for wear, with all of that scaffold...... whether that it's still undergoing War time repairs - ten years later, or just a 1950's refurb, who knows.

Well done, that man!   :wellin

It is isn't it. A time and place long gone except in memories..

So many shots around the city, ( too many to mention )

Yes, it's difficult to know where to start there's just so many little clips of locations, some familiar, some not so.

There's a few shots around Litherland-Crosby and I think a Lydiate way one, and also I think some on the Wirral clips (ties in with the going in the tunnel entrance), and also Vauxhall road, Prescot road, Queens drive, what looks like how I remember Newsham park, and of course lots around town at various locations. It's quite funny in places too.

I'll make a start at ID'ing locations in no particular order, then and now...

At 3.01 we are here, heading out to the Formby Bypass..

My favourite pages on that site, are the pubs.

http://inacityliving.piczo.com/?g=41057337&cr=7

http://pic7.piczo.com/inacityliving/?g=43555768

You can spend hours on those two pages, from loads of pubs that still exist, but were decidedly different in days gone by, to loads of pubs that are now deceased, and no longer with us.

Brill site.  :wave

not sure were to put these but I suppose this is the best place, went on a walk from dingle station through the disused tunnel last week (it was with night vision investigations).

sadly whist the tunnel itself still survives the station platforms no longer exist (its now a garage) and the track presumably was removed when the overhead railway was destroyed.

the path down into the station itself from street level

the station platform area, now in use as a garage.

[

Took my car to this garage a few years ago ( weird place for a garage ) , Didn't even know it existed .

Pretty scary getting the car in and out - the tunnel's fairly tight.

Super little film from '41.
Brilliant.

It's funny how a little frase like - fell off the back of a lorry -  is now common place to mean, came from an illigitimate source.  yet if you look at some of those goods lorries around 7.00 minutes or so, you can see why.  Nothing tied on, nothing even netted. Just loose cargo stacked on the back, being driven through the streets, and be damned.

Funny. I was thinking, this must be post war, but pre 1956 when the Overhead came down. I've only just realised the 'super little film from 41' tag.  :D

Superb that, I love these old films

A lot of those images from the film could be taken from the early
sixties, deliveries still by horses and carts.
Remembering on Birkenhead docks in the early 60`s and a stack
of cartons holding bottles of Scotch whisky were being loaded onto a
Brocklebank ship for NAAFI.s in Port Said or Steamer Point, Aden.
The dockers noticed that some cartons seemed different and were
opened by dock officials and no whisky.
Milk bottles, pop bottles filled with water or piss, there had been a fire
at the Glasgow bottling distillery and the originals had been robbed.
The amount of export lager shipped to those ports had to be seen to be
believed, could have filled the Suez canal.

WOW!

Just spent a couple of hours on there. Didn't half take me back.

You just don't realise how far Liverpool has come on since the 80s, when you see the urban deprevation in there.

Some grim photo's of all of the places I grew up, around Everton, and Netherfield Road.

Indeed a lot of the City is changing. The Pier Head itself has changed a lot since then[well apart from the main buildings], that drafty bus station, with that dreadful Subway to the Z stands which no one used other than a Toilet, all demolished. The City Centre itself has changed a lot although some parts are still recognisable, but remember the old Hood Street Gyrotory?
