sounds like the old space time continuum chestnut. I hope not.
I think something original is required to kick start the films again.
To be honest, I think Star Trek is pretty much dead in terms of doing "something new"/being kick started.
This film does actually look pretty good, but it just doesn't really "fit" with the rest of the franchise. It's all previously been sort of telling the same story in different places, timelines been important etc. Enterprise fucked it up a bit, but that was pretty shite anyway.
There's not really a great deal left for them to do really. They've done all the exploring episodes they can do, they've had a war and human catastrophes etc. It's run its course!
The films have almost always been shite anyway, I can think of two I'd say were genuinely quality movies (Wrath of Khan and First Contact).
