As a coach you're asking him to cover far less of the pitch as a striker than as the outside midfielder of a 3, he's going to be exposed so much more often, unless he's rigidly coached to be extremely disciplined in his role, which if you're doing that, then you're losing a lot of what makes him a good player.

Looks like Lego head tried to make a statement by naming almost his strongest 11, but Man Utd had a (slightly) changed 11 and still got 2 goals in the first half before making wholesale changes, it's irrelevant, as didn't that shite beat us 4 nil or something in a friendly last year?, nothing to worry about for Arsenal.

I'm glad we are keeping Partey because a Partey / Rice midfield might be 'safer' for the time being against the bigger teams

Think the days of 'physical' teams in the Prem are dying to be honest. Possibly Everton. Maybe Brentford?

Teams tend to lean towards physicality when they're technically deficient, exhibit A - Everton 1988 - modern day, non refined language - "pure shithouses".

Definitely. We need to win  midfield battles and until Rice learns how we play, he ll need Partey alongside him not Havertz.

A sample size of one game, his very first game playing for a side, surrounded by new players, in a new system, in pre-season.....is not enough to judge a players ability or value against a transfer fee he did not set.

Not a fan of playing other PL teams in pre-season. It was annoying last summer and the Arsenal-United game yesterday shows why. Then you’ve got Arteta post-match saying that he wants to see his players ‘hurting’ and how they’ll ‘respond’ to the defeat. In pre-season. Can you be arsed with that?

Good point about playing other English sides, especially bigger rivals. I admit I didn’t know this was on and then I my wanted to see the result because of all the guff TNB has been spouting in recent weeks. Obviously can’t read anything into it but will be interesting to see how Deccers fits into this Arsenal side (or not). Really don’t think he can be or will want to be seen as ‘the defensive one’.
