Laugavulin 16 (costs just about $120 here)
SpringBank 14, Manzanilla Sherry Cask (about $80-100)
RedBrest 21, (200 dollars)
Pappy 15 ($90)
and either JTS Brown BIB ($20) or Four Roses Single Barrel ($45)

I haven't tasted any of those... Once my Masters is complete, I'm on it!

We should have a Whiskey Kris Kindle in here in December ;D

If ye all could have only 5 bottles in your whiskey cabinet, stuff that you can reasonably afford.
What would you put in there?

Lagavulin 16
Lagavulin Double Matured
Talisker
Jura Diurach's Own
Loch Dhu (if you could only get your hands on a bottle for <£100 - distillery closed about 10 years ago and bottles are rare as hen's teeth now)...so would settle with a Balvenie Double Wood as a compromise 5th choice

I haven't tasted so many of the whiskies in the above few posts. I'm going to have an interesting time buying and drinking them. I used to drink jameson plenty but never really got 'into' whiskey, not until the last two years, but ive been so busy with work and college that I haven't had time to drink.

So, the girl who sits beside me at work used to work in a whiskey bar and is a whiskey nut. I've also got a new gf and she loves whiskey too, So I'll be visiting Teelings brewery and the Irish Whiskey Museum soon. We actually drank Green Spot on our second date, and I'm bringing her to a Jameson Black Barrell event in a few weeks, as my mate in PR got me tickets. :) I'll be a fine cultured Whiskey drinker in no time. ;)

Greenspot is quite nice, I told a funny story about it a few pages back.

I work part time in booze sales and thus I have a working knowledge of whisky and whiskeys.

(And I have a drinking knowledge too, as it is my spirit of choice.)
I watched a YouTube video and decided that Paul Konchesky looked like a player.

Anyone been to Mackenzie's Whisky bar on Rodney street in town? Currently there enjoying some Old Pulteney 12.  Due to there very generous servings at the recent Sefton park food and wine festival.

Nice shout Claire.

Will be buying some nice single malt today.

Got my hands on a bottle of Pappy 12 the other week, not my favourite of the Pappys (15 is my choice) but it was more affordable then the others (all of which I have had on numerous occasions)

Having never drunk Bourbon before (usually drink Balvenie) which of those would you recommend as a starter?

Trace it is then as the Evan Williams appears to have upped it's price.  Cheers

Thanks to the whisky buffs on here I just got a bottle of the 12 year old Aberlour as a pressie for me Pa.

It's on offer in a few of the supermarkets at the moment but most have sold out down here.  I've got him Glenmorangie and Highland Park in the past and was looking for something new (for him) to try (ahem).  Do folk have preferences for glassware?  I also got a pair of these.  With there being two of them he should take the hint.  ;)

Not whisky but bourbon. I brought a bottle of Bulleit as it was available at a very good price on Amazon the other day. Smooth and pleasant but without the complexity or backnotes of a Scottish or Irish whisky. While this may open me up to be slaughtered on this thread, for me the best bourbon is Jim Beam Black Label, lovely stuff.
Justice for the 96!

No slaughtered mate, black beam is indeed a nice tipple, 8 years for a decent price.

But there are so many others out there.

Elmer T Lee
Eagle Rare
Evan Williams 10 (usually $30 in most areas in the US)
Henry McKenna 10
Mitchers
Woodford Reserve
Blantons
Wellers
Willet
JTS Brown
Old Grand-dad
Old Bardstown
Johnny Drum
Makers
Four Roses
Wild Turkey
Heaven Hill
Colonel Taylor
Trace......

All of the additinal bottlings of these lables

Whaaaat, Makers is fucking lovely. On the other hand, I can't stand Jim Beam and love Bulliet. Maybe we're at different sides of the bourbon spectrum ;D I do like Woodford Reserve, too. Want to try other ones but I've got a little stock pile of Bulliet since it's been on offer all over the show lately and I keep buying it! Never seen Makers on offer, unfortunately. Think I'll have one now :lickin

I don't think any are better but maybe some are on par, while being different.

Merlyn was available for a tenner for a while over Christmas and Amarula is similar but with a nuttier quality.

Santa was quite the enabler over Christmas...

I've ended up with a Macallan, a Glenlivet, a Jura and a Dalwhinnie after Xmas. That dryanuary doesn't stand a chance.

Sitting on some Talisker 10, Jura Brooklyn, a few ryes and a few bourbons, including my Pappy 12 (oh and a bottle of 25 year old Armagnac)

Still a good friend is joining me for the weekend, and this will not be enough, and he owes me a bottle of Oban.

I'll report back on our acquisitions.

Funny enough I was supping on Auchentoshan 12 Year Old last night.

My Mum's fella was up in Glasgow over Christmas and went to their distillery and very kindly bought me a bottle.

Did well over Chrismtas; Auchentoshan 12, Glen Moray, Ardmore and Laphroaig 10

Tried some Wild Turkey 17 this weekend, very nice tipple.

Also got into the Pappy 12 and made short work of the Jura Brooklyn and the Weller special stele tigon I had.

Was gifted ad bottle of Westland Peated American Single Malt, have not opened it yet but will report back once I do.

Also the 25 year old Armagnac was excellent.
