Did a similar thing a few years ago in 2012 (I think I put a post up on this thread at the time), it was amazing - so good I ended up deciding to propose and came home from the trip engaged!

Noah's Mill is a great tipple Claire.

If you can't find it, maybe try Rowan's Creek. Same distillery just a tier below the Noah's, and a great bottle.

Dan, I hope you get to have a few drams of that.

Only just seen this! I'll check out Rowans ;D

Whiskey Exchange have finally got some Noah's in but it's £66, going to NYC in two weeks and I know it's more like £40 over there so might get some if I can find it, and now just found this place:
http://www.astorwines.com/SpiritsSearchResult.aspx?p=2&search=Advanced&searchtype=Contains&term=&cat=2&pricerange=3&country=USA&style=2_32

*goes off to find out how many bottles you're allowed to bring back*

Drinking  Cardhu tonight. A proper Speyside whisky with a nice afternote of pear.

Having been poorly most of the festive period, this is only my second drink of the last week.🙁

Have an old friend over for the weekend, he brought some Michters Bourbon, opened my bottle of Hancock Reserve and had a splash of a 26 year old single malt I was gifted. Likely we will have more tonight!

Any help greatly appreciated

Going to friends this weekend. He hates peaty whisky and I am no expert.

I think then a bourbon is in order, but what to buy. I have seen JD Sinatra at about $150 a bottle, but have no clue.

Being in Texas won’t be easy to pick up a non peaty whisky, so any recommendations greatly appreciated

If you can push the budget out, and if you can find it, get yourself some George T Stagg from Buffalo Trace Distillery.

Thanks, purchased the JD Sinatra tonight. Have been told it’s excellent. However with my limited palette I wouldn’t know lol

The one you recommended was $499, maybe next time :)

Not an issue at all, where in Texas are you?

Do you want Bourbon or just non peaty whisky/whiskies?

Price range/budget?

JR Ewing country :)

I bought the JD Sinatra for $164 inc tax.

Been told that Angels Envy and Eagle Rare and Basil Haydens are pretty decent as well.

However would really like to know of some really good non peaty whisky, if you could oblige  :)

All of the above are unpeaty.

We in the states do not use peat to roast our malt, not done use peat to toast our barrels. Well save for Westland in Seattle.

Might you try and locate some Mitchers, Eagle Rare 18, Weller, Williet, Hancock, Rock Hill Farm, Evan Williams Single Barrel, Four Roses Single Barrel...

Yeah I know bourbon isn’t peaty. Maybe I didn’t explain correctly. I was after recommendations for non peaty scotch. I’ve found that a lot of Americans really don’t like the peaty taste as they are so used to bourbon

That clears things up.

Are you familiar with the regions and distillery traditions of Scotland?

If not I would read up on them.

But in simple terms to avoid peaty whisky (which I love and seek out most of the time) simply avoid Islay, Campbelltown, the Islands (Skye, Jura, Mull...) and some of the Western Highland Malts (Oban). Instead focus on Speyside and Lowland producers, as they use remarkably less peat. Hint, if it has "Glen" in the name there is rather high probability that the distillery is from Speyside.

Guys.  Found a boxed and unopened bottle of Rosebank 1983 (bottled 1995) Single Lowland Malt in the cupboard this weekend.  I think I picked it up off a now deceased relative a good few years ago.

Its from the Gordon & Macphail 'Connoisseur's choice' range.

After a quick google. I see the very same bottle went for £200 on whiskyauctioneer.com.  I initially got very excited as some of the Rosebank Malts go for £500-£1000.  I also read that the Rosebank distillery is now decommissioned.

I don't drink Whisky and it would be wasted on me so I'm going to keep hold or flog it.

My question is. Does the price of Whisky rise as the years go on?

Anything uncommon such as a decommissioned sitillery does go up year on year. There's obviously a limit but scarcity inflates value.

Emailed a Whisky Auction site and they replied with a £200-£300 Valuation

Same bottle fetched £130 in 2014 and £170 in 2015

Think I'll let it ride for a few years. Sort of Mini investment :)

I brought a bottle of Pike Creak at Waitrose today. It was only £20 and I didn’t have a Canadian whisky in my collection. The rum finish is very much evident and while Pike Creak has a nice kick to it. While lacking the subtleties of a malt whisky, it is far more smooth than a similarly priced Bourbon. I think I am going to enjoy this bottle.

Speaking of Whisky...my father-in-law passed away recently. He left behind an unopened bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold Label. This, I believe, was discontinued and became Gold Label Reserve. Any tried it, or not to come over all Antiques Roadshow...how much is it worth?

Big fan of that one, they do a cask strength 12 that is also quality.

If you have never had it, find Green Spot or Yellow Spot. Also great iriah drams.
