He is still a very good manager. He will go back to being likable again as soon as he leaves Manchester City.

I never liked him before he went there. Thinking about it outside of Liverpool football club I don't think I like anyone in football.

But I am a miserable old git so there is that.

Mate, I laughed so much at this yesterday that I actually felt pain. I think I'd need a battery of tests and my doctor's permission before viewing this again :)

Funny that if you come across any on Twitter they nearly all say something like “ST holder since 1980” or “City fan since the bad days” like they’re either desperate to prove they haven’t jumped on the bandwagon or they’re just trying a bit too hard. Feels like there’s more people claiming to be ST holders than there are people going to watch them.
To be fair, they used to get pretty big gates even when they were in the third tier. It was one of the few things they could 'boast' about while the red mancs were ruling the roost.

Right. That's enough of being fair...

LFC's fault then

Yeah, it's... not our fault he did those fucking interviews. Explaining how he was 'flattered' by Arsenal's interest a matter of days before we played them in one of the most important games of the season?

The club was right to discipline to him for that.

There are some specific, memorable reasons why he gets booed. Are they fair? Was he right to go? Probably not, probably. But if anyone's seriously asking why he gets it more than others, do you not understand anything about football at all?

Stating that Rose - a player who clearly doesn't give a shit about his club - got on with Ox and Walcott as an example of how club rivalries can be put aside, is just idiotic "journalism".

Had a proper giggle reading that article. Did Raheem's agent write it himself did he?

The reaction to this has been bizarre. They spent 25 minutes talking about this on Sky's 'The Debate' programme last night. Not one word of condemnation for Sterling attacking a teammate 24 hours after the two of them pushed each other during a match.

Steve Sidwell said "I can't condone what he did but I love his passion". Lescott went on to say we don't know what really happened and speculated that "maybe there were punches thrown by both parties" despite Southgate categorically saying Gomez did not react to what Sterling did. They then talked about how worried they were that this would affect Sterling, no mention of Gomez. It was more like watching a panel discussion on MCFC TV.

The PR work has already started with his agent. Sources letting the Telegraph know that the Liverpool fans behaviour is the source of his meltdown. The media just lapping it all up.

-------------

Why years of vilification after Anfield exit may be at root of Raheem Sterling meltdown
It was a huge game for Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, a chance to halve Liverpool’s six-point lead over the visitors and put down a marker while slowing their rivals’ formidable march.

It was no less so for Raheem Sterling and, as the fallout from his bust-up with Joe Gomez is hungrily dissected, that loss of control for which the City forward has subsequently apologised appears to have its roots in a lot more than just frustration at a particularly damaging defeat.
Hmm...''as the fallout from his bust-up with Joe Gomez is hungrily dissected...'' says the writer disapprovingly, before....hungrily dissecting the bust up with Joe Gomez...

Quote
Sterling quickly became typecast as a bad-boy mercenary who had moved primarily for a £180,000-a-week salary worth double what was on offer at Anfield, even if his now bulging trophy cabinet dictates otherwise,
At the time when he moved he didn't have that bulging trophy cabinet and no guarantee that it would come; there was no Pep there at the time. Hence it does not 'dictate otherwise'.

Quote
Remember the one about him buying a sausage roll from Greggs and having the temerity to eat it in a “£500,000 limited edition Bentley”? Or that one about him shopping in Poundworld, as if that was some sort of mortal sin for such a wealthy individual? And so the list goes on.

He would later joke that he had one of those faces “people don’t like” but the watershed moment came after he was abused during City’s 2-0 defeat at Chelsea in December last year and responded in an Instagram post by accusing some sections of the media of helping to “fuel racism” through their portrayal of young black footballers.
What have these things got to do with Liverpool?

Quote
This, of course, is not to excuse Sterling’s behaviour towards Gomez but it might help to offer some context to why the City forward reacted so disproportionately the day after his shove from the Liverpool defender in the closing minutes of Sunday’s 3-1 defeat. One source on Tuesday suggested the Liverpool game had become “totally acidic” for Sterling and perhaps his second clash with Gomez, at St George’s Park after reporting for England duty, was an unacceptable unloading of years of pent-up frustration whenever he visits Anfield.

Sterling had actually been quite calm in the dressing room after the game and had appeared to patch things up with Gomez but something snapped in him on Monday. It is worth noting that Sterling has never suggested he is a saint, even if the narrative has swung so wildly now that people seem wary of even legitimate, constructive criticism. He just asked for some fairness and balance.
''This, of course, is not to excuse Sterling’s behaviour towards Gomez''  says the writer...before going on to try and excuse Sterling's behaviour towards Gomez.

What is going on here?

IF it was the Liverpool fans' fault - well they deserve plaudits. They managed to upset a professional footballer, a key player for the richest football club in the world, so much that it not only put him off his game it's put him off behaving like a professional - both during the match and for days after.

How good is that!!?

Next time we play them, they have licence to do exactly the same.  We hear about the "12th man" and how the crowd at Anfield, particularly the Kop, can influence a game. Well, I've never heard anyone say the influence was at this level.  I not only expect players like Sterling to be targeted in the future, I think it's the Liverpool fans' duty to do so.  As long as there's nothing vile in the attention they dish out, nothing racist, bigoted, abusively personal, etc., then it's all good.  Boo him, jeer him, laugh at him. If it helps us win it'd be madness not to, it'd be a dereliction of duty in fact!

Well played the Anfield crowd.

I read a few pages every now and again and am nauseated every time. It's just endless moaning.

To others that read it more often... Are there with a bit of humour there? RAWK threads on Everton, United, City etc. are more of a laugh than anything. Over there it's just fucking negativity all round.

They're watching one of the best teams in English football history and they can't even enjoy it.
It's the most toxic football forum I've ever visited. There's very little humour or frivolity and very few dues given to the opposition. There are some nuggets of common sense, some posters trying to talk about their own flaws, but mostly it's just anger and paranoia. It's what always happens when posters egg each other on to even stupider levels, but they take it to a new extreme.

It happens here as well; this very thread is an example of it; what should be a joyous piss-take thread (like the Manc and Bitters threads) has too much anger and indignation and po-facedness in it. But nothing like as bad as Blue Moon.

If there's one thing we can do that would really put them in their place (and hilariously rile them up) it would be to stop being so indignant about them here and start full-on taking the piss again. This should be a full-on piss-take thread, what RAWK does so well.

It's the actualy punishment that is hilarious, 1 game and a paltry fine. Such a poor message for the FA to send out, especially at a time where racism is sadly a massive issue.

The sad thing is, many of their genuine old school have long since been priced out so no longer go.

Both of my female cousins married Mancs, one United and one City. Talking to their brother recently he said the City fella was priced out ages ago. He was brilliant too, and used to get us Reds tickets against them at Maine Road. We saw us tonk them there a number of times thank to him supplying us tickets in the City stand.

From what I hear, he has little time or interest in Abu Dhabi FC now City are dead.

Anyway, it was like they had 10 men against us for 80 odd minutes with him playing the other day, he was so anonymous I forgot he was even playing until he got their consolation.  They’d probably benefit from him sitting out a 5 further games if that performance is anything to go by.

If there's one thing we can do that would really put them in their place (and hilariously rile them up) it would be to stop being so indignant about them here and start full-on taking the piss again. This should be a full-on piss-take thread, what RAWK does so well.

This is true. And I speak as one of the worst offenders.

The fact is, we're just jealous because our owners wouldn't have the testicular fortitude to actually torture someone.

Our game at their place is going to be mad, this rivalry seems to be taking an ugly turn and there is a lot more hatred than there was even a year ago.
