Another very solid performance ... The talent is obviously there ... Lets hope that he can develop some sort of consistency ... If he manages to do that, those 11.5 million wouldn't look so bad ...
The internet is a bad place - People like Mac Red are on it.

... with his transfer fee.

Indeed.  In my heart of hearts I'd still love him to make it here..he's still young and he is exactly the sort of player we should be looking at...I just think there is too much for him to overcome now..minds are made up and even if he stays in the team for the next few matches (he won't), I don't think he has time to change the minds of the people who matter.

Thought he was great tonight. Showed the reasons that he needs to be picked up top. Against Newcastle I'd play a 4-3-3 with him, Nando and Ngog up top and Lucas, Raul and Stevie/Maxi in the middle.

I'm not Ryans biggest fan but it would be harsh to drop him now, I know Nando has more than proved himself but looking at the bigger picture Ryan needs to keep his place for his confidence and to prove hard work gets you in the team.

Good Performance.

Deserves a start next game but won't start. Shame.

HELL NO

My fear is that Dirk will continue to get in his way. Dirk isn't the future of our team, Roy should be focusing on players like Babel as the way forward but as we all know this will be highly unlikely.

Good game, very good goal from a difficult angle. He also took part in the game with some good touches and runs, hopefully he can continue and very good to see Roy choosed him before our nr 10.

After two good shows,he deserves a run in the side.
The frustrating thing with him is that every now and then he comes up with solid performances like this, which really is his true potential, but hardly lasts.

Ditto

The key is backing him now giving him a run of 10 games even if his next game is utter shite he just needs a manager who has faith in him, then lets see what he can do if he still fucks it up i'll have no complaints.

Thats a 10 game gamble.

Continues to impress, its amazing what a bit of continuity can do for a player isnt it? Pray that he's still in the 11 for the next game. he's earned his place.

Also never seen him win so many headers as he did tonight, his all round game seems to be improving game by game.

Caused havoc in that Villa defence tonight  - Collins & Dunn couldn't cope with his accelerations at all.

Linked up well with Ngog, and took his goal well (though it was offside).

Hope he keeps up this level of performances and gets a decent run.

I honestly cannot remember the last time Babel put two good performances in a row in (can anyone els? If it's ever happened, it must be some time ago). I don't want to get carried away, but I think this is what we want to see from our fringe players. Making the most of their chances... we saw it with Yossi two years back, we're seeing it with Maxi now, and I hope we see this with Babel.

He's shown moments of brilliance at times, but he's often let himself down by consistently making poor decisions, on the pitch, I mean... I don't give a shit that he uses text talk while he's on twitter. They've got a character limit! And if he spends his spare time making music, tweeting, and playing video games as well as getting extra training in under Roy... well I think that's a lot better than him partying, excessive drinking, etc...  I think his first season with us was his best and he never really kicked on from that.

So long may it continue. I like him, he's passionate and he actually engages with fans on a regular basis (on twitter... I honestly can't believe he gets slated for it). He's obviously got a lot of talent, I hope he can kick on and make something of it here.

Id play both Babel and Ngog ahead of Torres next game.

Good performance from the two front men tonight, really impressive. Hope they both get a run of games now.

He was like a different player, this was the Ryan babel we bought.

Maybe just maybe, he and Ngog are a genuine partnership, it just seemed to work.

Well in Ryan.

Why Kuyt though? I mean it would never happen but you'd surely stick gerrard out on the right and bench torres?

On form, Kuyt or Torres would drop to the bench. And Dirk is in worse form, Fernando isnt in bad form he's just not scoring chances. Apart from that his game is good. Id put Babel in for Dirk personally.

That's to all the Babel haters. Well in Ryan lad, ya done us proud tonight!

Bit unneccessary and daft, one goal and his first good performance of the season against a shocking Villa side proves very little in a long term debate.

Lovely take though and a good showing from Ryan.
