Mine is in Jan but a few people I know have really struggled with it and it has made me abit nervous if honest 🤢

I'm no authority on this, but if your six months since your second jab is up, I think you should be able to get it at a walk-in.

I was given that option today, but my nearest walk-in vaccination centre doesn't do the booster, so I just booked elsewhere online for December instead.

My second jab was June 25th so 24th of December sounds right, cheers.

That's a fairly unlikely scenario but the real problem is the lack of proper quarantine and testing on return,

I don't know how unlikely the scenario is, but it happened to me; I lost my father and I couldn't even make it for the funeral. But anyway, I think that no one is making travel decisions lightly these days. And although people make different decisions with the same information, generalizing is dismissive.

The quarantine and testing point though is fair. Things can be improved, especially with the current state of knowledge.

I can't decide on mine yet. I've got Moderna and was thinking of a Pfeizer booster, but from the little data out there it seems that the additional antibodies from the Pfeizer would only offer extra protection for just a few months... And I don't know if I should wait for a Johnson&Johnson booster (at least it's a different working principle).

Why aren't more experimental results made available?...

Exactly, this isn’t going away. These mutations occur in one anyone person and spread from there. One person has a prolonged infection or a weakened immune system and you can end up with a new variant and be back to square one, and with 7 billion people on the planet and animal reservoirs we arnt getting rid of this, the disease will always be with us and the potential for a new variant always be there. We arnt going to have an Independence Day anytime soon.

I’m pretty sure that the UK trials showed that Pfizer followed by AZ didn’t produce as good results as 3 Pfizer’s hence why arnt using AZ for boosters, and since the AZ vaccine is similar to the J&J I would chose an MRNA vaccine, and if you have had 2 Pfizer’s personally I would opt for a Moderna just to mix it up a bit even though Pfizer and Moderna are very similar.

South Africa and near by countries to be added to the Red List.

Considering this is potentially the second variant of concern to come from that part of the world and its high prevalence of HIV and AIDS (some experts think people with weakened immune systems can be the source of variants) it should be a priority for vaccination.

Not until it’s significantly better than it is now. Europe is suffering with a shit load of cases. I haven’t been abroad since 2019 and honestly I don’t feel the need to go anytime soon. 2023 will be the earliest I consider a holiday abroad.

But the point is that this is not as simple decision as people portray it, especially looking at the narratives in all media. I guess the longer that gets repeated, the more true it becomes. They all say it's a no brainer that everyone should get a booster, but none of them can point to the data that shed light on some of the above questions...

It’s literally taken 48 hours to take us back 12 months to the appearance of Delta in India at the beginning of the year, and personally I’m gonna just get on with things as much as I can because you don’t know when it’s going to get better or worse. There’s been periods in the last 6 months where cases were lower in many countries then they were here with no variants lurking about that were perfectly good opportunities to go abroad and I’m not wasting any more.

I wouldn’t over think it either. For me having had 2 doses of AZ, any booster is a significant improvement in protection, I’m having mine on Monday and whatever I get (either Pfizer or Moderna) I will happily take.

That’s a huge exaggeration.

12 months ago we’d barely vaccinated anyone, we were in a national lockdown and it was all incredibly grim. Today there’s been news of a variant which may, or may not evade the vaccine(and if it does we don’t know how much it will evade it) which may or may not be transmissible enough to cause a problem.

I get the fear whenever something like this comes up but the context is always important.
