Its one of if not my favourite Van album. He was much more at home on stage than in a studio, the band playing behind really pushed more energy and charisma out of him.

I'd go for one of the Velvet Underground live albums, if only for the fact that they have the reputation as being obtuse and unlistenable whereas you listen to the live albums and they have this really accessible swinging vibe which brings out the pop structures that alot of their songs had as their basis.

As well as that, Nirvana unplugged is a good shout. Especially when you think of today and whether a mainstream band would have the balls to play a set that is pretty much half made up of covers. And then a 'rock' band going unplugged to such effect.

Nirvana - Unplugged is incredible, probably my most watched DVD ever. Also have the cd which makes for great listening. It is great to hear a softer side to a band that mainly specialized in heavy rock music. The cover songs are performed brilliantly with many people claiming Nirvana's version of Man Who Sold The World superior to Bowie's. Kurt's rendition of Pennyroyal Tea is beautiful and sad both at the same time. The show finished with a cover of Lead Bellys "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" which is incredible, especially the final few moments where after howling the lyrics Kurt takes one quick look at the camera and you can see the torment in his eyes before he lets out a sigh and utters the final words.

Needless to say, I love that show and would reccomend it to anyone.

So many great ones out there.

But for me:
Stop Making Sense - Talking Heads.

Watching the film - you 'get it' much more than listening to the album.
The film directed by Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs) is the best music video I've seen up to now.
