I think Swartzwelder was
the Simpsons writer during it's heyday.
He also wrote Homer at the Bat, which for me is the greatest ever Simpsons episode, with absolutely perfect pacing and a non-stop whirlwind of brilliant gags, with an iconic credits scene.
Homer: 'You're Darryl Strawberry!'
Strawberry: 'Yes.'
Homer: 'You play right-field.'
Strawberry: 'Yes.'
Homer: 'I play right-field too.'
Strawberry: 'So?'
Homer: 'Well, are you better than me?'
Strawberry: 'Well, I've never met you... but yes.'
Brutal exchange.
Mike Scioscia's breathy replies when he asks will he ever play baseball again is brilliant, fair play to his comedic performance.
