I believe we will win but just a reminder that a draw isnt the end of the world. Just avoid defeat and its a solid start.

Depends on your aspirations. If we want to fight for the title, we need to be winning.

I think you are underestimating this Villa team under Emery. They have a few players thay are capable of troubling us today.

Yeah, Watkins and Diaby will cause lots of teams trouble this season. No VVD or Konate for this one levels that up a bit.

Hoping to see more structure in our build up play through midfield today.

Don’t fuck around at the back, don’t concede first/early, even better don’t concede.

And let the forwards do their best.

If it’s a tight game and they do sit deep I fancy Szoboszlai to break the deadlock from the edge of the box.

Probably could have stopped typing after Szoboszlai.

Swap out Gakpo for Nunez and that’s the team. Maybe.

Apparently Nunez starts, Jones over Endo too according to Twitter rumours.

I'm hearing no Henderson, Fabinho, Milner, Firmino , Keïta, Oxlade chamberlain, VVD, Konaté, Thiago, Jones today.
A draw will be a good result.

Excellent side, I prefer Diogo to Diaz but it's just nitpicking really. Get these twatted!

Very attacking setup... Good to see Jones back. Need to look after the ball well. Emery will have them in a low block with forwards pressing high without possession and look for counters, so we can't lose the ball cheaply because that will kill us. Nunez could be lethal as their backline lacks physicality.

That team confirmed? I dunno what we do about the 6, it’s a waste of Jones and Mac’s qualities but you probably do want both of them on the pitch given Thiago and Bacjetic aren’t fully fit and Endo is new to the club and the league. Tricky.

That's what I was wondering. We're not converting Gravenberch to a 6 but Jones.

Thanks Duvva,

Delighted the transfer window is closed (bar Saudi and SKY).

Tough game today I think. Joel and Joe need to be "on it". Likewise Trent with the pace Villa have.
Going for a hard-fought, grey hair inducing 3-2 for the Reds.

Important to keep possession and not give the ball away in dangerous which has been a massive failing of ours.

Hope to see a big performance from Jones as well.

Think we will build 3 - 4 - 3 with Jones and Trent in the pivots. McGinn between the lines and Watkins over the top or when they go vertical will be a threat. Diaby’s directness needs to be looked out for. Think he could cause the same trouble as Almiron if he drops deep to pick it up and run so should focus on keeping him outside.

Do think that we have enough there to win the midfield battle.

As usual no early fuckups , keep it tight, build some territorial dominance and we should be fine.

I reckon MacAllister more likely there, but interested to find out. Either way, i think starting over Endo emphasises an effort at throttling villa's threat on the counter by dominating possession rather than looking to destroy after they've begun

More importantly how many have we won?

Another difficult match. I think mainly because they are well organized and they have a very good counter with pacey and skillfull players. We have to work harder than them, and we have to be clinical. Hoping Darwin is on fire and our midfield is at their very best. Hope to get another positive restult before the break to continue building momentum.

Looks like Jones in the 6 like we trialled in the latter stages of preseason. Great to see Nunez starting but I wonder if Jota would've worked better pressing and linking up play with Darwin than Diaz?

I think they started at the Etihad in the Covid season after VVD’s injury.  We drew 1-1 that game.
