100% a red that. Surprised they didn’t card him at all, not like they didn’t see it :)
I guess they took into account that he was fouled going for the ball. It could have easily been a penalty.
Anyway, a good professional win with us need to score at least one there to seal the passage to SF

Professional performance.  A better side may have exploited the breaks a bit more, but we may have been a bit tighter against a better side.

Plenty of non incidents for fans of other teams to fewm over too. Lovely.

Comfortable result. Thought Salah was lucky not to get sent off. Should have enough to get through, especially if we can get an early goal over there..

Now onto Sunday!

Bit sloppy again tonight but still enough to see off Porto and a  lovely goal by Bobby. Onto the next one.

Them having to attack just leaves more space for us to exploit. We just need to be clinical.

Job done despite Lovren's best efforts.

Score one away and we are through.

Lovren was better than VVD in that game. He covered superbly about 3 times when Porto got behind VVD. That's are best centre back pairing for me.

The Mo incident is one of those 'you've seen them given'. At no point in real time did I think there was an issue, and I don't think it was a red when watching the replay, but you can see how it could be considered endangering an opponent. I think for a change with VAR, common sense prevailed.

Who was nervous? I wasn't and I'm the biggest scaredy cat on this site.

To be honest, I found this a really strange game. I had no nerves at all, and the whole occasion felt very low-key for a CL QF.
I thought we played well within ourselves, to the point of sloppiness at times, but I never felt the need to be worried.
The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long, and you've burned so very, very brightly, Jürgen.

Good result but a little disappointed we didn't push more for the third. An early goal for them in the second leg will have their fans smelling blood so hopefully we can get one ourselves to all but kill the tie off.

No need to push for a third and leave your self exposed for an away goal.

Professional performance, I thought we tired massively in ths 2nd half - but the result sets us up nicely for next week. We'll have to be very clinical but you'd fancy us to score at least once given there will be plenty of space.

Keita is getting much better and clearly growing in confidence - he still has a tendency to hold on for the ball too long and is easily pressed. I see it all the time, leaves us very open to the counter attack. But clearly growing in to his role in the team and looks infinitely better centrally than out wide.

Think the reason Mo missed the ball and caught the lads leg was because he was being pulled back and was off balance. Maybe they took that into consideration.

Sixth consecutive win since the world imploded when we drew 0-0 in the derby.
That's only because other sides aren't studying how Everton play against us.

I think it was more Porto were furious about a foul in the box from Trent moments earlier. They were screaming at the ref for VAR rather than Salah's tackle. Lucky

Will take that all day long.

A goal in Porto should kill the tie.

This! We get a goal and it should be tie over. Clean sheet was massive tonight. I can’t see them beating us 3-0.

Well done lads  :scarf

So why not a penalty then. Salah may have got to the ball if he wasn't being pulled back so the first foul was on Salah and I thought at the time that it was a penalty.

Well we got it but it was deemed off-side. Having just seen the TV replay I am still not conviced it was. The orther Porto fullback blocked the view to Sadio's forward foot, could well have been level there. Should have been advantage for him and a goal.

That said, well played, almost on cruise control. So many great performances, and so happy for Baby Keith to score again. Bobby, too!

That was an hilarious dive, and chase at the ref from that guy (and he was on a yellow!)

But can't fault him for trying in desperation, the world cup showed players that VAR will reward that kind of shit every so often (best case for the cheat) and there'll be no consequences (worst case)

One of the biggest crimes VAR needs to be held accountable for is bringing back Phil Dowd

When he said at first he thought the Trent one was a penalty, it hit his arm as Allison knocked it out for a corner, it was literally going out of play anyway. Joker.

Still Top result, VAR proved to be wank once again, Can Mo get retrospectively punished if VAR have ruled on it? Any tackle can be made to look bad in slow motion and I thought VAR had to be real time? Also Manes goal was marginal, if VAR is used shoudln't they show lines on the pitch?

Meh, Fuck it. Great result and City finally got a game. A good night!

I thought it was onside when I was watching but I watched it a few times after the match and I think he just got it right. It was really close though and could have gone either way without VAR.

Was incredibly close for sure.

I suspect that had the linesman kept his flag down and allowed the goal then VAR wouldn't have overturned it.

The key in the knockout stages is to not concede at home and score away. We're on track to achieve that. Great result against a tricky opponent. I was relieved to see their penalty appeal turned away (the AA hand ball) because from what I've seen in the last 12 months, anything that hits the hand is deemed hand ball. Having Robertson back for the second leg will strengthen us.

The Mo one was weird. They were looking at a decision in our box, then they switched to the Mo tackle, and when I saw it I was thinking 'Oh shit, that's going to be a red on VAR because they always give those ones, he'll miss the 2nd leg and he might miss the first leg of the semi..' and then nothing, play on. Yeah, cool ref, whatever you say.
