Took a couple of hits straight at the ribs from Giroud, dusted himself up and got going. Just seems to have that idgaf mentality that nothing bothers or surprises him.

Does he play at Napoli or do we give him the full week for the City game? Obviously we dont know the extent of the rib injury. They say bruised ribs but he could have a cracked rib or it could be the rib cartilage and their keeping it under wraps. I just hope he can get through this week and then swerve the international games and have a 2 week break.

He had it from the PSG game if I remember correctly, it's probably not going to be an issue now.

His first half performance was the best I recall seeing from a defender. He was everywhere and won absolutely everything. Giroud is a quality, underrated player and he didn’t get a sniff of the ball. Just an all around dominant display.

I'll go with that. 75m is daylight robbery IMO. He's worth twice that. He is that good and I hope he can remain at this level for the next decade and at Liverpool because that would mean we would have won a shitload.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

I think he is actually our best player.

Might just be. Our defense is on track to concede fewer than 20 goals in the PL this season, with some room to spare, and we’ve already been to Palace, Leicester, Spurs and Chelsea. VVD is something else.

What is really amazing is how Gomez has come on in leaps and bounds with big Virgil beside him. The two look top class together.

He's not very prone to injuries, so that's a positive.

I'm too young for Hansen so he's the best defender I've ever seen in a Liverpool shirt.
Hansen is one of the best. Cool, intelligent, elegant with great anticipation and reading of the game. Van Dijk has it all. Strength, power, pace, presence, smart, reads the game very well and a great organizer and leader. Once he lead us to glory, there will no doubt he is the best there is. A great piece of business. For what be brings to the team, he is an absolute bargain

This surprised me but removed any doubts about VVD as the best defender in the Premiership. Giroud didn’t get a kick.

Well a man that tall should not be that fast.

But also the fastest man in history can only run in straight - occasionally slightly curved lines -  and did so once every several hours.

The way he can take a beating and not give a shit reminds me of Ayala back in the day. Just an animal what scares me the most is that I think in Joe Gomez we have a CB who is even more comfortable on the ball than Van Dijk... we have our very own triumvirate
;D  Mate of mine and me are the same, everyone swears we are brothers when we're out. He calls me slaphead, I call him slaphead, so when I see him I go "slap" and he replies "slap. People be looking and thinking what the f**k are these 2 on  ;D

It shows the lack of ambition at United.

Ferguson would have outbid us and doubled his wages to get him.

He probably felt exposed.

Firmino trying to prevent build up through Jorginho meant that not enough pressure was being put on their defence and they picked our high line off early with the Hazard 1-v-1. On top of that, big spaces appeared in front of him when Henderson stepped up the pitch. This means the defence either needs to step up and close that space - then have a higher line and risk being picked off. Or allow players to move into that space and then they can pick you off from closer range - which is what happened for the Hazard goal.

Absolutely monstrous yesterday - man of the match by a country mile

8 clearances, 5 aerial wins, 12 accurate long balls - he was essentially doing the work of two men.

It's becoming clearer just how ridiculously quick he is.... in the second half Willian (whose not slow) is clean through and he gives him 2/3 yards start at half way and gets to the ball first by the 18 yard line

Anyone got a gif of that incident last night where he and Joe rushed back to get a tackle in a potentially save a goal? Was immense (from the two of them to be fair) and I think Virgil got the important touch. Didn't he visibly go "Whew!" after he got there, like wiping the sweat from his brow or something? Brilliant stuff.
