I think that was always the case, that he'd be back late this season but fitness wise wouldn't really have much of a chance until next season.

Cheers for that. I wasn`t sure if there had been an update because there have been a few pictures of him out and about. Horrible injury for the lad and he is much missed in the match day squad. His drive, energy and breaking the lines attacking would have been handy this season. I sincerely hope he comes back the player that he was

I know that the news was that he was out for the season, but has that changed at all ? Is there any chance of him being back towards the end of the season ?

Nope. You may be able to build his neuromuscular control to be able to support the knee quickly but biology and healing tissues slows things down. It's a very strict timescale that has to be adhered to and sometimes its better to wait.

Despite being one of the sceptics when he initially signed I think he’s a big miss this season. Just goes to show how good our squad is now that results wise his absence hasn’t been felt more.

Same skills required. City can be a very tough side to break down. Everyone naturally raves about the front line, but they also had the best defense in the league last season. The connection between our midfield and front line has not been at the same level as last season, because without Lallana and Oxlade, we're playing a holder and two box to box players rather than the holder, b2b, attacking mid trio we've been working with since Klopp came in.

Keita seems to be good at pretty much everything, which is why I expect he's more likely to eventually be used in a more versatile role. For the time being, he's still settling and while he could be an option for the City match, I'd be happier to see a fit Oxlade Chamberlain in there at this point. Under the circumstances, of course, we'll have to make it work with what's available. Be interesting to see if we go back with the Hendo-Milner-Gini midfield again. It lacks a bit of creativity, and defensively it can be opened up a bit too easily. They are all good players, but for me that combination doesn't get the best out of any of them.

One can see why we wanted Fekir.
Those afterburner runs from the midfield are precisely what we are missing to hit higher gears.

Big time, him and Salah especially had a great relationship and Mo is missing set ups like the one v Newcastle. Still, we chose to do nothing after Fekir and rely on Lallana so if it ends up costing us this season it's our own fault. Luckily we are exceptional in all other areas so may get away with it. You'd hope we have someone ready to go in January though.

We chose not to take a punt on Fekir's reconstructed knee you mean.
One bad fall by Fekir in November 2018 with Liverpool and we'd have been in the same situation we're in now, only 45 million quid lighter!

He will be back, the guy has character and determination.

It's going to be a slow but steady journey back, but his positivity and determination as well as the treatment and support he's getting from the club will be helping him massively. Hope he has as great a season as he can next season.

He's running again? So early? Wow.

He did it 5 months ago, running in a straight line on a treadmill is probably about right for where he is in his rehab now. He isn't running in that pic though...

Yeah, me too. Really like the guy, says all the right things and is a presence on the pitch. Also so unlucky how this injury came to pass. Was a tackling you see every week, normally one without any bearing for anybody.

From what I read, the most similar injury is Roberto Baggio's when he was a teen just breaking through to the first team in Italy. He tore his miniscus and every ligament in his knee. Was told he would need to retire.

How's treatment for that injury come on since Baggio's day? Is there a higher chance of recovery these days or is it much of a muchness?

And would their different styles of play affect their respective chances of having a successful career? Baggio's probably got the highest ratio of artistry to physicality I've ever seen in a footballer - he was usually the most delicate player on the pitch but also mostly the best because he was so much technically better than everyone. Ox on the other hand is so physical, a hard running hard sprinting ball of muscle. I take it that style's going to be harder to get back to?

Think he is a big reason why the attacking side has been tougher this season. Before he got injured he was great at making bursts forward and playing balls through to Salah, together with the goals like against City.

Need Keita  or Shaquiri to fill that gap, as Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldim all together rarely offer that kind of thing. Albeit they do make us harder to beat.
